By now, most of us know the story of Kevin Durant and his Aunt Pearl, but just in case you are new to this: KD’s Aunt Pearl was a huge influence on his life and they were extremely close when he was growing up.
Sadly, she passed away in 2000, long before he was “KD.” When Nike learned of this influential person in Durant’s life, the brand agreed to make a colorway of KD’s signature shoes every year in her honor. We have seen angel wings, pink roses, and many other details, but this might be the best of the series.
The KD9 ‘Aunt Pearl’ features a black Flyknit forefoot with pink threads running through it. The heel portion is black neoprene with various inlays of the initials “AP.” That heel KD logo, sewn in, really gives off a lux feel, while down below, the Max Zoom bubbles get the pink touch. The Kay Yow tag hits the pull tab with the pink ribbon sewn in, signifying that a portion of the proceeds will go to the Kay Yow Cancer foundation, an absolutely worthy cause.
The KD9 ‘Aunt Pearl’ hits SNKRS tomorrow but will hit Nike.com and retail shelves next Saturday, January 28, for $150 — the same price as the regular version.
