Sneaker-lab has teamed up with five female shoe designers to stock never before seen shoe designs on International Women’s Day. Today we’re featuring Megan Ann Wilson (aka SheGotGame) and her Nike collection.
Designed and produced through NikeiD, the collection features an Air Presto, an Air Max 95, and an Air Force 1 High. It is inspired by the phoenix because the mythological bird burns brightest before turning to ash and being reborn — and red is the color of Women’s History Month, March.
“I often feel that my career is in a constant state of renewal,” Wilson said in a statement. “The phoenix represents passion, purpose, and progress to me.” Megan, a Canadian designer and stylist, was able to turn her dreams into reality in 2018 and obtain a U.S. work permit. Thus, she is donating 10% of the sales of her collection to the ACLU to help other dreamers rise up and achieve.
The Air Presto of the collection represents progress, the Air Max 95 is passion, and the Air Force 1 is for purpose. “The textures on the Presto really look like a wing so I love it,” Wilson told WearTesters. “The AF1 feels like a mix of New York and Toronto somehow. Fashion but sport, which is very me. I was most worried about that shoe but I’m loving how it’s wearing in.”
“My favorite is the Air Max 95, I love the mix of materials and colors,” she continued. “I thought it was funny how many other red shoes are scheduled to come out the next few months so I guess I’m on trend!”
Wilson’s collection is one of five being sold this week exclusively at Sneaker-lab. Model and multimedia artist Megan Harris, fashion designer and painter Aunie McQueen, Deputy Art Director Dian Holton, and creative technologist K8 have all created their own colorful collections for International Women’s Day.
“I think it’s really interesting how different every collection is and how varied our backgrounds are in terms of professional work and style. Some went for one main story, others more of a theme,” Wilson told WearTesters. “My collection is very “me” — since it’s the first real one I’ve done I want it to feel authentic to my story, on trend, but also a story that others can relate to.”
All five collections are available now at Sneaker-lab.com in unisex sizing for one week only. Prices range from $120 to $240.
