Kemba Walker Leaves Under Armour for Jordan Brand

The Charlotte Hornets point guard Kemba Walker confirmed Saturday that he has left Under Armour for Jordan Brand. That is no big surprise as the Jumpman himself, Mr. Michael Jordan, is currently the Hornets owner.

Lately the news has been of Under Armour scooping up athletes that become wildly successful in their disciplines–or that adidas has poached the latest star from the Swoosh or Jumpman; it isn’t often that we hear Jordan Brand is picking up prized athletes from other companies.

    1. Oh come on you really think they picked Kemba solely because they think he’s such an amazing basketball player? 😉

I mean I don’t disagree with what you say, I’ve heard the same. But if you think there’s absolutely no bias whatsoever you’re a little naive.

    2. I don’t he’s allowed to decide who gets a deal though. Something the NBA has in place so that the Hornets don’t get an unfair advantage in signing FAs.

      1. “Allowed” is an interesting word to use when referring to the NBA, NHL, or NFL. It was only recently that the NFL became a for-profit organization; for years they made millions in revenue under the pretenses of a not-for-profit–who knows where that money went. I think you’re right, he’s not allowed to decide who gets a deal, but I think there are methods to go about it. I’d like to know how many athletes on the Hornets aren’t with the swoosh or JB.

  1. I don’t think this is a big loss for UA. Nice pickup for JB as its another player wearing a jumpman logo on his kicks, but Kemba is not a game changer when it comes to marketing and selling of shoes.

  2. wonder if the offer was better than what UA put up, or if Kemba felt obligated to sign w/ JB. that would be so awkward. the owner of the team wants you for his brand. how can you say no?
