Giannis Antetokounmpo, aka the Greek Freak, announced on Twitter today that he has officially signed with Nike.

The Greek Freak, currently having a breakout season, has been the center of this season’s sneaker bidding war as companies like adidas, Li-Ning, and others attempted to snatch this future mega-star. With Nike securing him, Antetokounmpo has reportedly committed with the Swoosh long term and is expecting his signature shoe line during the 2018-2019 season.

With the addition of the Greek Freak, Nike may have landed one of the best players in the NBA for the years to come. Additionally, his colorful personality and style of play may help boost his sneaker sales.

Are you excited to see Antetokounmpo join forces with Nike? Or would you rather see him in another brand? Let us know in the comment section below.

  1. Would’ve preferred him to sign with adidas. I think they would’ve provided him with a better model than Nike.

  2. Better signed with adidas, /// will not skimp his shoes on tech and would provide full length boost or bounce cushioning, while nike might just give his shoe a kinky-forefoot-only zoom unit or a heel only rectangular zoom unit or even a seemingly deceiving zoom unit like in the first Kobe AD.

  3. That’s a fair deal. I believe that Nike at first will use him as the main person to promote the next Hyperdunk (or next Kobe shoe) and after that they will release his signature shoe. They have done it before with Paul George and Kyrie Irving. Fear the Deer!

  4. Weak choice. Should’ve signed with the 3 Stripes as Swoosh already have a ton of signature sneakers on their roster.

  5. No brainer signing for Nike. MVP caliber player who’s still insanely young who has global appeal. They couldn’t afford to let him go elsewhere like Steph did a couple years back. Giannis likes Kobe’s so I would assume Nike will develop something similar for him. I wouldn’t even be surprised if he became the Kobe version of what Russell Westbrook is to Jordan’s. A top player wearing the main sig keeping tradition alive. It’s just going to be interesting what the pecking order will be since they already have “budget” sig shoes like the PG1’s and Kyrie’s.

  6. Should have signed with Adidas,

Adidas gives you their best tech at an affordable price,

And Boost will help his career in the long run.

  7. I’m just glad he didn’t sign with UA or a Chinese brand. Just hopefully Nike gives him a nice design team like Kyrie, Kobe and PG. adidas has Boost and bounce cushion but their overall shoe aesthetics this year hasnt been great. The leaked Harden 2 looks good, Dame 4 could’ve been better.. Rose 8 and Crazy Explosive isnt going to be seen on the streets. adidas needs to invest on at least 2 more signatures model. Lavine depending on how he does for the Bulls might be marketable but so would Wiggins, Embid and Porzingis. The only thing holding those 3 back imo is Playoffs.

  8. Great potential in this signing, but Nike’s track-record recently has been 1 good design(hopefully with good cushioning, no guarantees), then a bastardized team-shoe with a name on it. Also, I hope Nike can get over the fact he’s European, because in the past, that’s been ‘a thing’ in not promoting a player.

So a lot of ?’s left before this is a guaranteed success.
