What Could Be the Under Armour Curry 3 ‘Chinese New Year’

under armour curry 3 chinese new year 2

I am not Chinese but growing up in New York, Chinese New Year was always awesome. The food was always absolutely fantastic and it was a great way to understand the culture. CNY colorways can make or break a new year for me, and now, we have a look at what could be the Under Armour Curry 3 ‘Chinese New Year’.

Of course, these are not official images and could be samples. However, a reliable Under Armour source has co-signed these as the CNY Curry 3 and given a date: February 1.

The red Threadborne portion of the upper is met with a very colorful Anafoam portion and an equally colorful midsole. The outsole is solid white rubber and, as usual, gold accents are used on the tongue and eyelets. 2017 is to be the year of the Rooster, so who knows what it will hold…

When we get more information we’ll be sure to update you. These are not official yet, so what do you think of them for now?

  1. I think these shoes look cool in some colorways but not this one though, and im sure they perform pretty decent, but not for a prime time player like curry. Is curry contemplating a move to adidas? He should.

  2. I’ve been a Warriors fan since the run TMC days, so naturally I’ve been a Curry fan and by extension a UA fan, but got to be real about the Curry 3. that is a clown CW on an already unmarketable shoe. a fighter Jet was supposed to be the inspiration yet the shoe looks like a tug boat- how is that even possible? they dropped the ball on the Curry 3 completely. sure it performs well as a guard shoe and meets Curry’s needs but as far as appealing to the masses its a miss on every level. when a consumer has options such as full length Zoom(KD9) or Boost(Rose, crazy explosive, etc) for around the same price as Charged the choice is obvious. heck there are better options like Bounce for less money. when is UA going to get the message? Charged is not marketable anymore!
I really dont know what they were thinking w/ this one and upping the price on top of it. sure they used some premium and innovative materials but they are in no way appealing to the casual consumer- they dont sell the shoe. did they think anyone is buying bc of Threadborne? when ppl prefer Anafoam they hide it on the medial side. the huge chunky heel cup which serves its purpose but looks terrible. the real splurge in cost is the carbon fiber support wing which is probably unnecessary and does nothing to sell the shoe. I cant figure out what their angle or marketing plan was w/ this shoe bc it seems like a perfect storm of horrible decisions. this is the niche product of all niche products imo. you have to be either a die-hard Curry fan or someone who wants to play this exact setup to even consider the shoe. on top of all that the CWs have been dreadful for the most part.
we know the 3.5 wont be much better bc the tooling visually is a deal breaker for most. I thought the 2.5 was also a brick in the looks department. so they need to get back to what made the Curry 1 and 2 special, while doing something to advance their cushioning tech in some way. bring back SpeedForm for starters. its one thing that gives their products a seamless feel no one else has. hopefully they revamp the Curry 4 drastically, otherwise I can see this line going the way of the Answer and becoming quickly irrelevant. UA needs to find someone that understands marketing from a tech and aesthetics p.o.v. before its too late

    1. I literally couldn’t have said it any better. I didn’t even remotely consider the latest Curry…nowhere near the radar. Even at a discount, I’d probably just get the hyper dunk low for performance and aesthetics over the Curry 3. UA has got to get back to basics.

  3. There is something EXTREMELY wrong with Curry’s marketing team, and at this point I don’t even feel bad for him since he clearly signs off on this.

  4. These would be dope for my daughter. I hope no males would wear these, but in this skinny jeans era…

UA should focus on keeping it simple like they’ve been doing. Don’t go the Nike route with a bunch of loud colorways.

  5. I feel like UA just took some lateral move with the Curry 3. Making it look different for the sake of being different from the 2. CF wing thing is pretty gimmicky because really, it’s just making the upper stiffer; and I don’t mean in a good way. It’s not really doing anything to act as a real support cage since it’s not joined together (like at the shank)

Maybe at most they made it more to Curry’s own liking as there have been fit tweaks some consumers aren’t a fan of.

They’ve always been mediocre in the aesthetics department. I don’t even know why people like the Lux line. But yeah, they’ve come up with some legit bad taste for many pairs. I guess the idea is to take a bold approach, but it’s not panning out for many people. Crazy that they’re trying to get into sport fashion as well.
