The Air Jordan 20 Gets the Flyknit Treatment for Carmelo Anthony

The Air Jordan 20 has gotten a surprise Flyknit update, and it doesn’t look half bad.

While the Air Jordan 20 wouldn’t have been my first choice to remake with a Flyknit build, the original dual-strapped design lends itself nicely to the modern knitted look.

These two colorways appear to be tied to Carmelo Anthony in some way as each insole features the Melo logo. There are also numbers located on the midfoot straps that read 72023 — I assume those stand for Melo’s jersey number, the model of the shoe (Air Jordan 20) and Jordan’s number. The black/gum version also says “New York” so this may end up being a tribute in more ways than one.

Lifestyle seems to be the primary focus for the model, even though the Air Jordan 20 is one of the more fun models to play in due to its IPS (Independent Podular Suspension) cushioning system; it’s a dual-density cushion setup that acts like a piston when in motion. You can learn more about the Air Jordan 20 in my performance review.

What do you guys think of this Air Jordan 20 Flyknit? Is this something you’d wear off-court? Are you only interested in the shoe if its intended purpose is performance? Sound off below and let us know.

Stay tuned for updates on the Air Jordan 20 Flyknit release date and pricing. The current rumor is a release date of September 17.

  1. The XX’s have always been a “grail”-type shoe for me so I’m really not digging these. Strange, I know, but to each their own. I’d be VERY interested to see if these are actually playable on-court because I loved playing in the XX’s, though I doubt it.

  2. The more I look at the them, the more I want to play in them. Scrolling through IG and initially seeing them I was thrown off though.

  3. Although i am not the biggest fan of remake-treatment AJs, i think this edition looks quite interesting. Perhaps they would have been much better without the number at the midfoot strap. Not that bad overall!

  4. This flyknit thing clearly isn’t working for Jordans Retro line. The only interesting thing is the backside of the shoe, which is kinda cool. But if you look at the backside of the original AJ 20 which is awesome, even this is a downgrade from the original.

It’s a bit sad to see Jordan trying to squeeze every dollar out of it’s original models. They should give designers more freedom over there to come up with new inspiring things. I know MJ likes a clean toe without mudguards like the AJ1-3, but maybe it’s time the uplift the brand and lay aside MJ’s personal preferences.

  5. The olive green ones!!! I an definitely going to try and get my hands on these. Not a huge fan of the 20s but I really like the way these look. A must cop in my book

  6. remind me of the reebok alien stomper. I could do w/o the 72023. definitely interested in how they play and how the tech compares

  7. One of those things I just wouldn’t have imagined….and they’re pretty cool if the cushion hasn’t been butchered. Looks better than the original. Maybe the straps can keep this functional.

  8. Extremely underrated playing shoes. Snug fit, optimal grip, very lightweight, and great stability. Very sleek and rare shoe on court. Highly recommend to ball in.
