What’s in the Bag? | @PapaBurr81

Most of you may not remember this but those of you who have been with me since the beginning will…

I had received a SprayGround backpack from Pick Your Shoes and I loved using it so much that I thought I would make a post about it, this post was dubbed What’s in the Bag? I had asked others that wanted to participate to contact me and I would get things up on the site.

Well, this is What’s in the Bag? with PapaBurr81.

Enjoy!

My name is Edward Chia (aka PapaBurr81), I am 31 years old (a old school Baller), I live in the land Down Under (Australia) and, of course, a recent fan of KicksOnCourt. I’ve been balling every since I was 10 and haven’t stopped since then (expect when I’m injured).

Being a “mature-aged” Baller, I require a whole lot of gear just to shoot some hoops, more than I did when I was younger. So I need a bag that can carry all my gear and have been through many types (from back packs to messaged bags to duffle bags). And, I guess, this is where my obsession with bags began. Then one day, while looking at weartesters.com, I read one of Nightwing’s articles called “What’s in the Bag?” (which by the way is AWESOME, I really want one!!!) and I too wanted to shared with other Ballers, What’s in my Bag!

So this is my current basketball bag that I bring everywhere I ball (indoors and out). I’ve used a number of bags throughout the years but I always go back to the duffle bag (I like to carry my basketball in my bag). Until I can find a back pack that holds a ball (maybe the KD V back pack?), I’ll be a duffle bag man. I’ve had this bag for awhile (just a random bag that was lying around the house) and the wife has told me it’s time to replace it (but until it’s in pieces, I’ll keep on using it!) Now with that being said, let’s see What’s in my Bag!

Bag 1 of 6

On one side of my bag, I have my water bottle (for obvious reasons), a smaller bottle (for Gatorade) and a small laundry bag (for all my sweaty clothes, and I do sweat a lot). I also have a metal clip on the side. This is because sometime my bag gets too full of stuff (i.e. clothes, ball, etc), so I use it to clip my shoes onto my bag.

Bag 2 of 6

On the other side of the bag, I have some extra singlets (because again, I sweat a bit during games), an extra pair of sockets (I like to put on a fresh pair to put on after a session) and some extra support bandages (for the knees). Sometimes I like to put an extra shirt in this pocket (again, to keep fresh).

Bag 3 of 6

In the front of the bag, there are two smaller pockets. In the left pocket, which I call the “First Aid Pocket”, I keep my tape, tissues, bandages and some Deep Heat. And in the right pocket, it carries the accessories for my pump (i.e. extra needles) and usually some paper and pen (never know when you need write stuff down).

Bag 4 of 6

Now just behind these two front pockets, there is much bigger pocket. This houses all my sweat bands (again to keep the sweat out of my eyes), my keys, my wallet and my phone (which I’m using to take photos).

Bag 5 of 6

Now to the business end, what I keep in the main storage area. This particular bag is “rectangular” in shape, which means I can place the shoes like you would in a shoe box (BONUS!!!). This feature allows me to either place two pairs shoes in the bag or just one pair of shoes and a basketball. Currently I have two shoes in my bag. And for those playing at home, I got one of my favourite pairs of shoes of all time, the Melo 1.5 (indoor use only) and a pair of Nike Air Quick Handle (just as a spare and for outdoor use). I also have my pump, my main ankle and knee supports (you got to look after my legs) and some rope (mainly for skipping and workouts).

Bag 6 of 6

So that is what’s typically in my basketball bag. Sometimes things get taken out, put in or swapped around (especially the shoes).

Finally, again a big shout out to Nightwing2303 for giving me this opportunity (never thought I would do this), please follow me on Twitter, @papaburr81 and a huge thanks to you, the viewer, for taking some time out of your day to this article. And In the words of Nightwing, “Have a good one!”

    1. You must not have run into any situations where you wish you had brought something and didnt then lol. One time I needed tape – not for me but a friend who rolled their ankle – and I didnt have any. Guess what I carry with me now… tape. Braces, water, extra shoes, balls, sweats, sweatshirt… if you dont carry these types of things with you then you are probably young or dont hoop regularly.

      1. Lol, agree!!! I remember back in my younger days, I carried nothing. No braces, no extra anything. Just the shoes I wore and the clothes on my back!! Those were the days!!

        1. Why do you need extra shoes? couldn’t you just wear the ones you wanna play in and be done with it. I understand nightwing does a hell of a lot of training and tests a lot of shoes some of which are better than others, but for that regular hooper isn’t one pair of shoes good enough?

      2. I completely agree with this. I always at least have a different pair of shoes, my braces (knee, ankle, calf compression), ball pump, towel, and water. There are times when even more is needed. You just never know. It’s crazy how the times changed between 17 to 25. LOL!

      3. 31 … ball on wknds … wear my gear & carry my ball … travel light and deal w/ situations as they arise. That treasure trove is not the norm … I don’t think Ewing used that many sweatbands.

        1. I really sweat a crap load (in the Australian summer we’ve had a couple of 35-40 degree Celsius days outside – that 95-104 Fahrenheit. Plus most indoor courts don’t have AC, hence gets a bit hotter). It also keeps my hair in place (when I don;t get my haircut).

      4. somewhat true story. =P

i usually hoop 4-5 days a week… and now i have a travel medic pack in my car, and i have 2 different size of tapes (for fingers and ankles, 2 types of ankle guards and a knee guard in my bball bag.

  1. Sooo true! I’m a 30 y/o former marine with a lot of wear and tear on the body.I play pretty regularly and have noticed that it increasingly takes me longer to get ready to play. Kt tape on the arches, double socks, knee sleeves and braces on both knees… and this is just to shoot!lol

    1. Lol, my quick handles has a split in them now. Ball to hard. See my twitter account for the pic.

  2. I just tie my ball kicks to my backpack and go hoop….. Carrying all that stuff is so try hard lol
