At Under Armour’s Collegiate Design and Innovation Showcase last week, UA unveiled the new Notre Dame, Wisconsin, and Yale uniforms. In attendance was the Chicago Bulls’ Jerian Grant and WearTesters got to speak briefly with the long-time Under Armour athlete. Enjoy, and share your thoughts in the comments below.

Noah Goldowitz for WearTesters: Congrats on Summer League MVP! Double-double, 24 points 10 rebounds. You were awesome!

Jerian Grant: I appreciate that.

WearTesters: Your family tree sprawls throughout the NBA. Can you detail that?

Jerian Grant: My uncle [Horace Grant] played with the Bulls and Lakers, won some Championships; my dad played with the Wizards and Bullets, and my little brother plays for Philly right now.

WearTesters: You just defeated your brother recently. Was that tough? Cause I have a brother that kicks my ass at everything.

Jerian Grant: I think I would be that brother cause I haven’t lost yet — pre-season, Summer League, NBA — I haven’t lost yet to my little brother so hopefully that continues.

WearTesters: What have you learned about this profession, playing ball for a living, from your family?

Jerian Grant: Yeah. Staying humble and staying ready. Your opportunity is gonna come and at the highest level of the sport you gotta be ready to play every night.

WT: What’s something specific you learned from your family about this profession? Because it’s different than what almost everyone else on Earth does for a living.

JG: Hard work pays off. We got a lot of free time — we play basketball for a few hours a day — so what else are you gonna be doing? You have a lot of time to work on your game so hard work pays off.

WT: Learn any key moves from a family member? Horace had some moves.

JG: I’m the only guard though so not too many post moves, even though I post up a lot more now, so maybe a post move or two from my dad.

WT: I believe the stat is four out of five NBA players are with the Swoosh. What’s it like being a UA athlete? How is UA regarded by other athletes or by people in the NBA?

JG: It’s unique. They don’t have a lot of players, like you said, so being able to be chosen by them, or to chose them, is special. They’re a growing brand and to be able to be a part of something that’s growing rather than something that’s bigger is exciting.

WT: You are one of only a few athletes in the NBA wearing Under Armour. Have you worn anything else? Cause you’ve been wearing Under Armour since Notre Dame. What were you wearing before?

JG: We wore a bit of adidas in my first three years at Notre Dame — wasn’t too comfortable.

WT: What does it feel like, being part of the Under Armour “family?”

JG: It’s a family, like you said. They really take care of me.

WT: What made UA appealing to you, besides the family aspect? Did you get to choose Under Armour?

JG: I did, I had a choice. It’s a growing brand. I want to be able to help build it and see it continue to grow. It’s special being part of something you can help grow.

WT: You were born in Maryland, you went to high school in Maryland — UA is a Baltimore-based brand — do you think Under Armour can bring more to Maryland, Baltimore specifically?

JG: I think they’re doing a great job. They’re taking care of a lot of the high schools there, a few colleges — they’re doing a great job.

WT: What have you been wearing the past few months? I know that when you won MVP you were wearing the Fireshot Low

JG: Yes.

WT: We weartested that shoe, it was pretty awesome. Do you get a say in the wear-test process?

JG: I do. I been wearing the ClutchFits during the season, I wore Steph’s a little bit —

WT: How’d you like the Curry 2?

JG: I actually like em a lot. I didn’t get to wear the lowtop version that much but I’m looking forward to wearing those.

WT: And you’re more into lows right?

JG: Yes. So I wore the Fireshots for Summer League and they’re by far my favorites.

WT: Of all the basketball stuff?

JG: Yup, of all the basketball stuff — Fireshots.

WT: Finally, are we going to see some PEs with your name on them?

JG: Yes! I am looking forward to that, I definitely am. As long as I handle my business on the court, Under Armour will take care of me off the court.

WT: Anything set in stone yet?

JG: Nothing set in stone yet, I’ve gotta take care of my business.

WT: You’ve been taking care of business! Thank you for your time.

JG: Got some more to go. Thank you.

  1. Great interview. I think Grant will get playing time for sure. I hope UA is able to sign Malik Monk next year.
