Victoria Chiang Talks Empowering Women in Sneakers, Working at Foot Locker, and More

Victoria Chiang, perhaps better known as @wutangchiang, sat down with Alissa Nevita — another one of the footwear industry’s dopest women — for the first episode of For the Kick of It.

In an effort to shine a light on all of the fascinating women working in footwear to move this culture forward, Chiang and Nevita sat down for an interview in the heart of New York’s Chinatown. Victoria, who began her professional life in finance, left Wall Street to work with her passions.

“I’ve always been passionate about sports, sneakers, streetwear, but that was always a hobby to me — I never considered it a career because I had never explored it,” says Chang in the interview. “Finance, at that time, was very stable, it was safe, it looked great on my resume, it made my family happy…and after two years I just couldn’t do it anymore.”

Soon after, she leapt at a marketing job at Foot Locker. Now, Chiang often has on the most limited or hyped kicks in the entire Foot Locker office.

“I think they [Foot Locker] really appreciated that I had a diverse background; that I wasn’t just a sneakerhead on the street,” continued Chiang. “And that at the same time they were appreciative that I was a sneakerhead because most of the corporation, at that time, was focused on business and didn’t have their consumer working inside the four walls.”

Victoria Chiang is definitely a sneakerhead you should know about so check out the first episode of For the Kick of It. Expect to get acquainted with more of the footwear industry’s most interesting women in the coming weeks.
