The latest piece of Nike’s long-standing cooperation with the Kay Yow Cancer Fund public foundation has just surfaced: this new Nike KD 9 honors the life of Kevin Durant’s Aunt Pearl. The ‘Aunt Pearl’ series began on the Nike KD 4 but this KD9 might have the best colorblocking in the series yet.
In the past, the ‘Aunt Pearl’ builds generally used lots of pink. However, this latest KD 9 tones down and flaunts subtle contrast within the Flyknit while a stitched pink Swoosh highlights the back half of the shoe. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund logo is embroidered at the quarter and the Fund’s message is featured on the insoles.
Interestingly, this version of the KD 9 swaps the traditional mesh and fuse heel portion for what seems to be neoprene but retains the ever-so-comfortable articulated Zoom Air cushion setup.
There is no official release date available for this ‘Aunt Pearl’ KD yet, nor is there pricing information; some past ‘Aunt Pearl’ editions have retailed with a premium while others have not. Don’t worry, we’ll keep you updated.
What do you think of the new ‘Auntie Pearl’ colorblocking schema? Does this shoe have special meaning to you or someone that has been affected by cancer? Let us know.
