Under Armour Slingride 2 Updated with TPU Plate and Lower Price Tag

slingride 2 teal

Once the $100 SpeedForm Slingride, UA’s Slingride 2 features a new knit, an added TPU plate, and a lower $85 price — but it’s been designated a lifestyle shoe.

The new Slingride 2 makes no mention of SpeedForm, the seamless heel technology Under Armour has been using in its performance runners for years, but it does come with a refreshed look thanks to the new soft knit upper. The firm external heel counter has gotten bigger and should add some more support to keep the heel locked in.

As for cushioning, the Slingride 2 features the same molded Micro G footbed as its original build (the insoles are non-removable). It rides atop a midsole that combines Charged Cushioning with lightweight EVA, and has added a TPU plate to the sole for quicker toe-offs. The new shoe is just a bit heavier at 8.9 oz. instead of the original’s 8.4 oz but it stays fairly lightweight with a solid rubber outsole that covers high-wear areas.

The UA Slingride 2 is available now at underarmour.com for $85 in three colorways for men and women. The performance-focused Slingride 1.1, which featured Micro G and Threadborne, has dropped from $100 to just $60.

  1. Noah, I love your work but I seriously wonder why resources are wasted on UA shoes. Ye,s they have Curry. But I suspect even he doesn’t want to wear their shoes (stuck in a long term contract written back when Nike upset him and UA was willing to write a big check, with a high flying equity grant). These shoes are NOT for the Weartesters target market. Reviewing these means you should also spend time on Skechers, Easy Spirit, Clarks, Keen, Ryka or even Steve Madden. All of these are companies that make comfortable “foot coverings” in athletic styles. UA once had a chance, but after distributing into Kohls and TJ Maxx, they no longer have the brand cache to break into the world of Sneakerheads. Why even bother reviewing this trash? Please… spend time elsewhere. So many great releases right now that are a better use of your and our time! Your fan, Sneakerhead 101

    1. I appreciate your continued support, thank you for reading. I have spent time covering the Slingride 2 to illustrate how UA, and its running product, is changing. The first Slingride was a performance runner and many young athletes were wearing the shoe for just that. This second shoe isn’t for performance, and people should know that.
