Tinker Hatfield Talks Sneaker Design, His Career at Nike, and Sneaker Culture in New Interview

Tinker Hatfield — who began as a pole vaulter, became an architect, and then mastered sneaker design — sat down with COLORBLIND. to reflect on his career and discuss what inspires him.

Shot at Hatfield’s home, the nearly half hour interview covers more than what I can include here — from what keeps him young to what he will be designing in 20 years. Of course, the interview hits on the work Tinker did for Jordan and his signature line, as well as how Hatfield got into riding motorcycles and the Nike Mag.

Check out the interview below and share your thoughts in the comments below.

  1. I wish he would of asked Tinker these 2 questions…
    1. “Why cant Nike make an exact copy of a Retro Shoe like they were made back in the day”? Materials, shape, exact colorways, etc..?

2 .And if Jordan Brands moto is “Quality Materials made for the greatest player ever” then why use crap Materials on most/not all.. on any of 2days Jordans?

    …just my thoughts.
