He may not be Michael but Russell Westbrook is all in with Jordan Brand because he reportedly will get his signature shoe in a few months.
This isn’t the first time an athlete has said he will be getting a signature as Kyrie Irving, Paul George and James Harden reportedly mentioned getting a signature. It turns out that only Irving got his signature with Nike Basketball, while Harden got a sort-of signature in the Nike HyperChase and there’s still no word on George.
With that said, (the fashion forward) Westbrook just seems a bit more marketable than the other three and Jordan Brand hasn’t added a new signature line since the Fly Wade line. According to the video below from the Wall Street Journal, Russ’s signature will release in June:

I think they mean Wade was the last new signature athlete since Paul and Melo.

It doesn’t say that there aren’t other athletes. It says that they haven’t ADDED a signature line since…Meaning that was the last actual signature shoe line added to the line up. Melo and CP3 had their lines before Wade came and left.

Anyway he deserves a signature sneaker IMO hands down and it makes sense from a business perspective too like shoelander said he is marketable. Now after his all-star performance its a done deal. I’m not the biggest Westbrook fan but I do enjoy watching him play, he’s exciting and I expect his signature shoe to be top notch set the bar high from Jordan or I’ll be disappointed.
I’m so hyped. It’s been tough finding a new favorite baller after kobe has been injured. I started really watching his game a few years ago and he reminds me of a young kobe. Excited for his shoe hope it isn’t like that Kyrie Irving cheap crap. (I like him as a player too but his shoes have less tech than some team models)
There’s a lot of great talent out there… why follow someone just because they have a shoe named after them?

Should be performance, although I wouldn’t doubt some fashion pieces based on Westbrook’s style.
I hope this will be loaded with tech, since Russ has been the “spokes-athlete” for the flagship models for the last 2 years.
I’m really excited for him to get a signature model. His playing style is very similar to mine and if JB doesn’t cheap out on them they should be beastly on court and really fit my game. If they really tailor these to him they should have amazing traction, great lock down, and some amazing cushioning (probably unlocked zoom but you never know).

Brands are releasing signature models left and right now and in a sense, it is overkill, but I believe in today’s league there is so much young, marketable talent to tap into.

It’s probably Blake. Idk if Jordan will make the serious push for him since they still need him to endorse team models like Nike needs PG and Harden for the “sig team models”. Though he does deserve one the Nike/Jordan and overall just basketball shoe market is getting a little flooded with sigs to the point it doesn’t really mean anything now
