J.J. Watt has been an enigma. When he is healthy and on the field, he is an almost-unstoppable force of speed and strength unlike just about any other player. However, the last two seasons, that speed and strength has betrayed him with injuries, and his on-field time has been extremely limited.
After months of hard work, Watt is back and healthy to start the 2018 season. Reebok has given J.J. the near-perfect training shoe: the JJ II ‘Clean Slate’. The shoe is easily one of the best trainers on the market (for weights and circuits, not so much long runs) and is made for abuse from big bodies.
The white colorway, which represents a new, fresh beginning, is highlighted by silver details along the tongue and ankle collar — symbols of self-reflection. Hidden inside the shoe on the sockliner is the phrase “Never let a stumble in the road be the end of the journey,” a phrase that has helped Watt through months of physical rehab. Finally, the insoles get yellow construction barrier tape, a nod to a body still in progress and the work it will take to completely recover.
If you doubt the dedication and heart of this man-machine, take a look at the video below and try not to get inspired, Texans fan or not.
The Reebok JJ Watt shoes have been serious sellers for the last two seasons, with most colorways recording near sellouts within weeks of release. No doubt a triple-white colorway will be a big seller, although for the training Watt inspires it may not be triple-white for long.
The Reebok JJ II ‘Clean Slate’ pack releases on August 16 for $99 on Reebok.com. It will be available in both adult and kids sizes.
