Under Armour’s HOVR Phantom has been having a good run in 2018. Now, the shoe’s next build is right around the corner and it may surprise some.
Once constructed from a knit and chamois upper, the HOVR Phantom is getting a luxurious leather build for FW18. The shoe, which now features a perforated tongue, also uses a knit ankle collar that should provide a snug bootie-like fit.
Underfoot the shoe offers Under Armour’s HOVR cushioning technology but may not include the ultra-breathable Speedform 2.0 sockliner with gender-specific contours for extra protection and support (images seem to hint at a traditional insole).
There is still no official word yet on when the HOVR Phantom Lace-up PRM will hit retailers but expect an unveiling soon. This new luxe build will come with a small price increase, $140 instead of the usual $130, and the brand has been loving its HOVR products in 2018.
On an earnings call in early May Kevin Plank, founder and CEO of Under Armour, said that HOVR was the first-ever synchronized and digital-only global launch which exceeded goals for engagement, UA.com visits, perception scores, and sell-through. He added that the company was incredibly happy with the HOVR launch.
