Performance Teaser: Nike Air Penny II (2) Retro

The Air Penny II is performance ready straight out of the box making the ‘you can’t play ball in Retro models’ an inaccurate assumption.

The overall fit is much better than the Air Penny I but it’s still not quite perfect. The way they fit doesn’t hinder their performance at all but I would personally like to have that secure feeling in the heel either way.

Their collar shape is similar to what we see on today’s models. This type of collar (low in the heel and high at the ankle) has been used on the Air Jordan V, VI & VII and its a welcomed feature on any shoe. This is what makes the heel fit greater than the Penny I even though they could be slightly better… something I think we may receive in the Air Penny V when it hits retail.

The materials are cheap, I went over that already in the First Impression and within the Air Penny I review. While its not as luxurious as they used to be, they have held up pretty well so far which is a pleasant surprise. I cant foresee just how long the material will hold up but it should be enough to get you through a season.

These are one of those shoes that you just enjoy playing in… even if they aren’t technically perfect. I’m sure nostalgia plays a huge role in that for us older folks.

  1. This is totally irrelevant but did you get the Jordan obsidian 12’s that released on the 23rd? Why or why not?

  2. “The Air Penny II is performance ready straight out of the box” & nostalgia are very nice points on a retro shoe.
