Performance Teaser: Li-Ning Way of Wade

The upper is a 90’s shoe while the base features modern foam cushion… sweet!

The fit is incredible fresh out the box, very snug and form fitting. Once you begin to play in them then the 90’s comes out. Leather – being a raw material – does have its setbacks. I wouldn’t say that it’s horrible but you just have to be aware of it and adjust.

Once the leather begins to stretch a bit from gameplay, you will need to adjust the laces to regain the security you had in the beginning. This is something that I am used to as it happened with nearly every model I’ve ever played with while growing up but if you are used to the newer synthetics then it could be a little annoying.

This is where synthetics can be slightly better than raw materials – depending on the synthetic of course – in terms of pure performance but that is up for each wearer to decide… I know I’d rather wear leather than plastic but that’s just me.

If you haven’t tried the BounSe and CushioN foam system from Li-Ning yet then you are missing out. It’s a little more responsive than Micro G (heel not forefoot) but it doesn’t give you that plush step-in feeling that Micro G has. I would say it’s fairly similar to Lunarlon but Li-Ning’s cushion setup seems to be able to last a little longer in terms of its bounce back over time.

The heel feels great and absorbs plenty of impact while the forefoot is fairly minimal. I have to say that the Turningpoint offered more cushion overall but less court feel… I can’t really complain about either one as I enjoy having cushion and court feel so this is sort of in between.

They look bulky yet play sleek. Fresh, raw materials are in place and cushion is adequate… I’m impressed… but not really, I already knew Li-Ning made good hoop shoes.

    1. Forefoot flex is fine after a small break-in period. Ride height was fine as stated in the teaser, plenty of court feel. You can check out the Li-Ning Way of Wade Deconstructed post as well and see the thickness of the midsole/outsole.

  1. Securise….I like that word. Going to use that on court. This Open Court on TNT I can listen to all the time. Just got back from a game tonight and I can listen to these guys (Shaq, Miller, Kenny, Kerr, Weber, Charles and Ernie) all the time. Best show on NBA TV. Old School.

  2. I cant wait to play in some real leather shoes. These look good for both performance and casual wear. If they release all the colorways that I have seen, they will have no problem selling them. Crazy selection.

  3. imagine if the turningpoint looked like these aethetically. would love to retain the cushion and traction of the turning point and revamp the materials with leather, carbon fiber mid plate, and upper look of the Wades.

    hope Li-Ning is Li-ste-Ning.

  4. did you like these more than the turning point? Seems like you were biased towards these shoes because they made you nostalgic.

    1. I thought the Turningpoint was better overall. I’d appreciate it if you people quite calling me biased though… you clearly dont understand what that means and it is beginning to irritate me. If I was biased then these would have been ranked much higher on the top ten list. Learn to read and comprehend before you make accusations about someone otherwise you end up looking like you are biased as you assume nostalgia has something to do with my review.
