An Official Look at the NikeLab Veil Gyakusou, Nike’s Latest Sock Runner

NikeLab Veil Gyakusou 1

Nike’s Holiday 2017 NikeLab Gyakusou collection goes on sale November 2 but the brand’s announcement did not include the footwear. The NikeLab Veil Gyakusou is a sock runner actually meant for running.

We first reported on this sneaker several weeks ago when it was spotted in Japan. Outfitted with an entirely Flyknit upper, this runner rides atop a Free-inspired outsole that hints at forefoot cushion like the outsole of the PG1. The outsole is well-grooved for flexibility and features rubber traction pods for enhanced durability.

Notice that the forefoot has been reinforced with what appears to be TPU (or some sort of plastic) and the ankle sports a huge heel counter. Hey, whatever it takes to make a sock runable.

Additional details include the reflective Swoosh branding at the ankle, branded tongue and heel pull tabs, and Gyakosou branding on the insoles. The NikeLab Veil Gyakosou is pictured here in two colorways, Black/Sail and Port Wine/Sail/River Rock (the latter is probably a women’s colorway).

Nike has not officially released the NikeLab Veil Gyakosou runner yet — overseas or elsewhere — so there is no official retail price or release date known yet. We will update you when we have more.

What do you think of a sock runner that’s finally made for running? Let us know in the comments.

  1. I have 4 pairs of the 2017 Free RN Motion Flyknits which have the same mid/outsole and they are amazing. I’m a pretty big dude and the Free RN’s work amazingly when it comes to foot soreness.

These look like they are going to be great. As long as they have a similar lockdown and fexibility as the Motion Flyknits, I don’t see how one could go wrong with thesd. I hope they make some Flyknit sheild versions so that I can switch off of my Lunarepic Sheilds this winter.
