Nike Welcomes President Obama to its World Headquarters

Today, Nike welcomes President Obama to its world headquarters in order to  outline their support for TPP, and their plans for bringing manufacturing over to the U.S.

Will this mean every Nike & Jordan Brand sneaker will eventually be made in the United States rather than being outsourced overseas? It’s possible, but the details were a little vague.

Nike currently has a manufacturing footprint in the United States that includes footwear air sole manufacturing in Oregon and Missouri and relationships with manufacturing partners across the United States that employ thousands of Americans.

It seems as if they have a clear plan to eventually bring all production back to the States, and if that is the case then we’ll likely be paying higher prices for their products, but I personally wouldn’t mind since the products would then be American made and supporting the American economy – which could use a hefty boost. Something that would be interesting is if Nike kept all development and manufacturing here in the U.S. in order to cut down on leaked technology, but kept products being sold in certain locations manufactured in those locations. All products being sold in China, manufactured in China…all being sold Stateside, manufactured Stateside, etc.

Press Release:

Today welcomes President Obama to its World Headquarters in support of Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) and the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). The company announced its intention to accelerate investment in advanced footwear manufacturing in the United States, if TPA is passed and a TPP agreement is finalized.

Footwear tariff relief would allow Nike to accelerate development of new advanced manufacturing methods and a domestic supply chain to support U.S. based manufacturing.

This advanced manufacturing model is expected to lead to the creation of up to 10,000 manufacturing and engineering jobs in addition to thousands of construction jobs and up to 40,000 indirect supply chain and service jobs in the United States over the next decade.

“We believe agreements that encourage free and fair trade allow Nike to do what we do best: innovate, expand our businesses and drive economic growth. Nike has always led the way in product innovation, and now we will be able to accelerate our investments to continue to drive manufacturing innovation,” said Mark Parker, President & CEO NIKE, Inc.

U.S. manufacturing would allow Nike to deliver product faster to market, create innovative performance footwear, provide customized solutions for consumers, and advance sustainability goals.

“We commend President Obama for his strong leadership to advance these important trade initiatives,” said Parker. “Our employees and our business depend on free trade and the ability to reach athletes and consumers around the world.”

Nike employs 26,000 people in the United States, including more than 8,500 in Oregon, and does business in 190 countries around the world. The company contributes an annual economic impact to Oregon of more than $2.5 billion.

    1. They are warranted. The price to manufacture goes from 15-20$ to 30-40$. Thats not counting over heads. I read on this site that NIKE makes 20$ of a 100$ shoe. Out of 28 Bill revenue they made 2 Billion. (Still not bad lol). However I do agree that the Jordans and Elites are overpriced

  1. It can be done. The brand American aperral is made in downtown Los angeles. I am not necessarily a fan of there gear but the gear is affordable and tells me that it is possible. In the 90’s Nike and jb were making t shirts jackets in usa I don’t know where but I have them in my closet so it has been done for sure. I personally make an effort at collecting nba pro game shorts “made in usa” adidas has since moved BBS uniform mfg to Taiwan which is fkn rediculous.
