Nike to Open First Jordan Brand Exclusive Store in Chicago

A look at the Footaction and Jordan collaborated store called Flight 23

After 30 years and billions in yearly revenue, the Jordan Brand will open it’s own branded store without co-branding from Nike.

Since Michael Jordan got his own sneaker in 1985, the Jordan Brand has grown exponentially to the point of separating itself from the original Nike brand. This upcoming store launch has been years in the making, with the Jordan officially becoming it’s own brand in 1997 (while still being a subsidiary of the swoosh.)

There have been hints at this JB-exclusive store in the last few years, with Jordan-exclusive collaborative stores with Footaction called Flight 23 stores. Those appeared to be test-runs of sorts, as Jordan is now opening a store without other retailers’ help. The location will apparently be called the 32 South State Street store, named after the store’s address in downtown Chicago (this according to ESPN). According to MJ himself, the branded store attempts to go back to the roots of the Jordan Brand; in Chicago where they can tell Michael’s history the best.

Expect the first Jordan Brand exclusive store to open by year’s end. Would you want a Jordan-exclusive store in your neck of the woods? Let us know in the comments below.
