Nike+ (Plus) System Review – Basketball

Here it is… the review on the Nike+ Basketball System.

Hit the jump for Pros & Cons.

Pros
– Stat tracking
– Increase competitive drive through stat tracing
– Measures your vertical
– Measures your speed/ steps per second
– Easy to use
– Interaction with other players/ friends/ ballers

Cons
– Price – sold together with sneakers – huge turnoff
– Doesn’t measure actual speed, just the amount of steps per second
– Lags and takes long to sync to iPhone/ iPod
– Takes too long to sync so I end up leaving it on making stat average inaccurate

By now you all know that I personally feel that this system is a very cool thing to have but not entirely necessary for your typical ball player. If you are the type to want an increased vertical, track and measure your progress all while competing with your peers then this is something you will greatly enjoy. However, it’s also something that the younger crowd will gravitate toward versus us older guys. If you are a College or NBA player there is no point to owning the system since you already have proven yourself to be more than capable performing at the highest level.

Most players just need to get laced up and hit the court so it’s a give or take type of thing… if the above is something you find useful then it will be an asset to your game, if not then you will just end up wasting your money… unless it’s just the sneaker’s colorway you are after…

  1. What I’m wondering is how is this better than Mi coach from Adidas. I do feel like Nike’s is flashier but both carry the same results that I’m looking for. All the good points made about having the chip as an option are only in early Nike running shoes and Adidas Micoach. Lets be serious though, is anyone really surprised that this is happening especially with a Lebron I mean if people are showing off all of the Elites then they will have the X’s… Thanks for the review!

    1. The Adidas Micoach displays more stats than the Nike+. Adidas offers calories, top speed, bursts, fast breaks, total distance, heart rate, and even how much you can bench press. The Nike+ is just a toy while the Adidas Micoach is a tool

      1. Well the good news is if you do decide to all you have to purchase is the chip since you already have the Drose 2.5 and your favorite the Howard 2’s

  2. Like u said my biggest complaint is how every nike elite plus comes with a chip but u cant use them with other hyperdunks Like i didnt mind buying 1 nike + i got the USA colour way but do i really need to buy another Whole set if i wanted the black color way or if i wanted the Lebrons X I would have 3 sets of nike + which is soo unnecessary I also wanted to pick up a regular pair of hyperdunks just so i dont Beat the shit out of my plus It would of been nice if i could pop the chip in that one too but of course not nike has to do everything in there favor -.-

    1. you only need one set of chips for all your nike plus enabled shoes. One sport pack can be used on multiple shoes. You only need one sport pack

  3. Thanks for another great review. I remember you talked about the Max Zoom on the LeBron X being very responsive. So I wonder if you think people can get a little more vertical in the LeBron? What did the nike+ system say?

  4. believe me MiCoach is better its used by professionals to training superior football, tennis etc athletes like Leo Messi, Ronaldo etc

Nike+ Sports is just for fun period.
    MiCoach is for professional athletes

    they are not even comparable.

    1. Tennis really- mi coach sucks. It doesn’t get you better, its just a diet tool. Who cares how Much calories u burn? I wanna know my speed and vertical and with Nike+ I know it and can improve it.

      1. MiCoach dont have circuit pad its just straight performance “Sync and Run” and by the way you only need 1 Speedcell you dont need 2 of them 😀 MiCoach is in the middle of the shoe same as the Nike+ less circuit pads

      2. Actually I’m not good on reviewing things 😀 nightwing is the best for that I’m just telling you my experience on MiCoach and from my point of view MiCoach do really help you train, everything you need is in that speed cell and its very easy to use.

  5. Today’s NBA players can have careers until they are 50, because apparently the new kids will happily oblige every time there is a shot fake – as it is an opportunity to jump as high as they can, and push up their in-game vertical average by a few percent. Clearly that’s what basketball is all about.

  6. I actually just sold these on EBay for $68. (This was out of my Le Bron X Olympic pack shoes) They are heavy but play very well. As for the sensors….I tried them a couple of times but, they are a some what gimmick. Very time consuming and glitchy as well . On a different note the sneaker grip product at sneaker grip.com charges 8 dollars for shipping to New York City on a 10 dollar product. It is a good product though. Another product I tried and it’s 1 of the only few if not the only 1 in the category is 10 seconds shoe disinfectant and deodorizer. Also very good product 4 older or used sporting shoes, basketball and so on. As well as “WIN” sports detergent for washing your sweaty clothes after you play. It’s made specially for this job. I have 0 affiliation with any of these companies but I’ve used their products recently and they’re worth a look or maybe even a review. Always great stuff on the site and I finally got a chance to actually check out the entire site today. Keep up the good stuff!

  7. The Nike plus system is amazing! I watch the review on the system prior to buying the lebron x with the system. I think that it is great for all that are extremely competitive, or are looking at improving their athletic ability through workouts and want to see their improvements in games. I think it meets the needs for athletes that can afford the system ranging from high school even to athletes in college. I competed in college track and field doing sprints and having this system is wonderful to be able to track my vertical and other stats. I think it’s a useful tool for individuals wanting to be competitive or are curious about where they measure up and want to improve. I’m 29 and its nice to see that 6 yrs after competing at the division 1 level I still can compete at a high level.

  8. Love this video! I couldn’t agree more when you said that Nike should make the Nike+ system an option. What’s worst is that I got my Lebron X not long before Nike+ was in sold in the market. Which really pisses me off.

  9. you can now buy the shoes and then go later on when you have the money and buy the chips i believe 80 at finish line foot locker and dicks but at them stores if your military you can buy it for 60
