Nike Plans on Bringing Back SHOX Technology This Holiday Season

Nike held its investor meeting yesterday and there were several bit of information regarding what the Swoosh plans on doing for 2017 and 2018. Bringing back Nike SHOX is one of them.

Am I surprised? Yes. Nike SHOX was one of the worst cushioning technologies Nike has ever created. The independent SHOX columns were comprised of PU (polyurethane) and we nearly brick-like underfoot. These columns would break-in eventually, but they usually didn’t provide the “BOING!” that you saw in those awesome marketing ads. Yes, the best thing about SHOX was the ad campaigns. They were pretty epic (our editor agrees).

Nike revamped SHOX once before during the original Hyperfuse run. It replaced the horrible PU foam columns with individual Max Air units. Again, not the best cushion but it was much better than the original stuff.

Within its investor meeting yesterday, Nike stated that the new SHOX would offer “unmatched appeal and performance.” The new SHOX were created using 3D modeling and came together in about six months. The brand has dubbed it “propulsion with style.”

Let us know what you think of Nike bringing back SHOX technology and keep an eye out for updates regarding a holiday release.

  1. I thought I was the only one not getting the Shox hype. I played in the Limitless and Status, and both of them were trash. The cushioning on the R4 running shoes were a lot softer. I even rocked the Stunner, VC III and IV, and felt nothing special about Shox.

  2. I recall the orginal Shox getting rave reviews. ie VC II, III, and Stunners were all top performes back in the day. Tried all 3, but the Ultraflight and Nike Turbines were definitely better shoes IMO.

    1. You must’ve been reading the Kicksology reviews back in the day, too. LOL Professor K swore by Shox, and it was all lies. At least he was right about the Ultraflights. Those were great.

  3. I wanted Shox hoopin shoes the second they dropped but after finally playing in them (back then in the early 2000s) I almost threw em away b/c they were so hard on my joints even then when I was 20. I can’t imagine playing in something like that a handful of years south of 40 lol.

  4. I’m wearing the Shox VC 1 low as we speak. The traction is amazing and the cushioning is excellent. For basketball? Perfect. For running? hell f*cking no.

  5. Dear god no!!! My knees still hurt from wearing one of the Shox Runners back in the day. Pure PR marketing BS crap. Worse than Reebok Zig. Nuff said

  6. First ever Shox shoe for Basketball, I immediately bought. Most expensive shoe I bought at that time… Damn most regretful move ever made on a basketball shoe or any shoe for that matter. BROKE MY RIGHT ANKLE PERMANENTLY. Now I am playing on an uneven ankle. Had to keep playing in them because it was so damn expensive. Should have gone for a J which was at that time at the same price….
