Nike Officially Unveils The Hyperdunk 2015

Leo Chang takes inspiration from the legendary Nike MAG once more.

Along with the shoe’s official unveiling, we now know all the tech specs as well as their release information. I was a little bummed to read that full length Zoom isn’t in place, but heel and forefoot Zoom is good enough as long as they use regular sized versions of the tech versus thin and stripped down versions.

For all the latest, check out the information below, and share your thoughts on the latest Hyperdunk in the comment section.

Press Release:

The Nike Hyperdunk 2015 shoe features the brand’s top performance technology and a striking, cutting-edge silhouette. Leo Chang, Nike Basketball’s Footwear Design Director, led the development of the new Hyperdunk, aiming to evolve the line’s aesthetic while solidifying its reputation as one of basketball’s most technically advanced shoes of all time.

AN UPPER FIT TO MOVE

Nike Officially Unveils The Hyperdunk 2015 11

Flexibility and support define the new Hyperdunk upper, led by four technical details born from athlete insight and exhaustive testing:

1. Hyperfuse construction fuses lightweight textile with support skins to create a seamless, one-piece upper for lightweight durability and support.

2. Flexible collar foam helps lock the foot in place, providing the support of a high-top with the feel of a low-top.

3. Internal bootie construction features mesh and foam, which stretch and conform to the foot for a snug, comfortable fit.

4. Nike Flywire technology wraps the foot for a dynamic feel and lockdown support perfected for basketball. Molded channels allow the Flywire cables to loosen and tighten with the natural motion of the foot.

RESPONSIVE MIDSOLE CUSHIONING

Nike Officially Unveils The Hyperdunk 2015 10

Nike Zoom Air technology provides optimal cushioning for the elevation, impact and dynamic footwork of basketball. For the first time, the Hyperdunk footwear franchise features Zoom Air within a modern midsole construction, which includes three technical details:

1. Zoom Air units in the heel and at the forefoot provide low profile, responsive cushioning for excellent court feel.

2. Midsole foam surrounding the heel functions as a heel counter to enhance stability.

3. Phylon midsole provides lightweight cushioning and stability.

DYNAMIC OUTSOLE TRACTION DESIGN

Nike Officially Unveils The Hyperdunk 2015 14

Traction design can make or break a basketball shoe. Nike Basketball’sobsession with traction has propelled the industry to new places with the KYRIE 1 and KOBE X, and continues with the Hyperdunk 2015. Its versatile outsole construction is intended for diverse court surfaces, indoor and outdoor. The Hyperdunk 2015 features three key outsole details:

1. Herringbone pattern refined to enhance tackiness and grip, while delivering durability and traction for an array of court surfaces.

2. Outsole design wraps up the shoe’s sidewall to enhance stability and support in the midfoot area.

3. Outsole material reduction at the heel to minimize weight and reveal the Zoom Air cushioning inside.

AVAILABILITY

The Nike Hyperdunk 2015 is available globally in the bright crimson launch colorway at nike.com and select retail locations beginning July 1. The white colorway is available beginning Aug. 1. Six key colorways are available July 1 – Sept. 30.

      1. I personally believe lunarlon should be kept to running or specific guard shoes. It bottoms out way to quickly for big men. Yes they get a brand new pair every half or quarter if they want, but Dirk Nowitzki stayed true and is still rocking the 2010 zoom Hyperdunks. Whilst the Hyperdunk is marketed as the shoe for every player imo it’s a forward to center shoe! And I love in this write up about the 2015 Hyperdunk that nike seemed player input and feedback. Surely someone ar Nike was thinking “Yo why is Dirk still rocking the 2010’s”

  1. Don’t know if Leo designed the previous model but good to know he is back designing this version.

Besides the size of Zoom units, I wonder if the traction is suited for indoor/outdoor as stated.

  2. I like the look of the first half of the shoes, but not so sold on that latter half… that heel looks massive…wonder how it will look when it’s actually worn.

  3. I got a really good feeling about this shoe. Glad to see zoom back in the hyperdunk, was getting a little boring with targetted Lunar. Looks good in my opinion

    1. I thought so too, when I first saw them and I’m still confused as to how anyone thought that heal looked good, but with the proper color way that aesthetic error in judgement can be concealed fairly well and then the shoe will look pretty good. (hopefully NikeiD will be an option) Performance wise it will be between this and the SF4. Whichever performs best according to the mix of reviewers I trust will go in my bag.

  4. I’m interested in seeing a low top version of this shoe. It seems to be a pretty tall hi top. Maybe if there was just on the those bars decorating the back and the eliminated the same it occupied it would look better. Solid color ways will do this shoe justice by roving the huge look of the hoarsehoof heal.

  5. I don’t know Nightwing. To me, I see flywire, targeted cushion and fuse. Maybe 5 years ago this was “technically advanced” but today… Today I can get great full length foam cushion, woven upper, great wiper blade traction, great synthetic leather heal lock down and the feel of a luxury shoe for the same price as a hyperdunk. That’s advanced in my opinion. Just my opinion. Brandblack is bringing the heat right now! I can’t wait for the mesh Force Vector. FV vs HD! Samurai Showdown!

  6. I don’t know why everyone is having on the middle acting as the heelcounter. Jordan brand did it with the Cp3 vii and Mello m11 so not really a surprise seems to be a performance direction to enhance in shoe comfort as well as foot stability whilst playing. As for the cushion set up, am happy to see lunarlon go unless it’s full length which the last few models haven’t been. No matter the size of the zoom I just hope these aren’t bottom loaded zoom units, waist of zoom. If they are imo. And very excited to see the review on these especially how the different foam is offering actual stability support hope the tech and performance features carries over to plating in them!
