Nike KB Mentality – Detailed Look & Review

There is a new Kobe in town, and it’s not the Kobe 10.

These are the Nike KB Mentality. A shoe that will provide you with most of what you’ve come to expect from the recent Kobe models in terms of tech, but for half the cost. The retail price on these bad boys starts at just $100, a budget friendly on-court option that can be worn indoors or outdoors.

Check out the detailed look & review below, and stay tuned for their performance review in the coming weeks.

      1. I bought my pair at a regular footlocker in Miami but I went to two other footlockers and they weren’t there. Are these exclusives and if so are they official announced by Nike yet?

  1. nightwing, how does this traction compare to the kobe 9 or the xx8? I use both during games and they perform excellent. r these close at least to those models? thanks for all of your performance reviews and keep up the amazing work!

  2. I got my kid brother a pair of these for Christmas. He was stoked and was just saying that he never had a pair of Kobe’s before I surprised him with his gift.

  3. These look great aesthetically and in performance, all for $100. Need to see if my footlocker has a pair. It’ll be even better dropping my LeBron 11 midsole on these.

      1. Damn that’s a shame. Fit was probably compromised since the LeBron 11 midsole sits higher. Looks like the heel clip isn’t able to do it’s job as your foot sits higher. Pure speculation just by looking at where the heel clip is located. Thanks for the info. Lunarlon is still good by itself, especially at $100 and being able to wear these on an outdoor court.

        1. what if if you put inside the mentality the bottomed up lebron 11 midsole..will it be decent? since i want the zoom setup

  4. Thanks for the look. I saw the blue pair on sale in Canada for boxing day for $103. Pretty light in terms of weight and wallet.

  5. Thanks a lot for the quick review NW!
Looking forward for the performance test so they can be compared to the Kyrie 1s.

Can you tell us how light these feel (at least in hand)?
Are they also “Kobe 8 light” or do they feel heavier?
    Thanks a lot!

  6. I think that on the HOH site, the official release date is the 1st. I know that there are of course locations that are already selling them not to mention that you can find them above retail on ebay.

  7. Appreciate Nike doing take down models for Kobe, Lebron, and KD. I feel like the SuperFly is the take down for the Air Jordan flagship. In fact, I believe the SF2 is perfect and should be sold annually like the AJ1. Plus, the SF3 has been a step back compared to the SF2 as NW mentioned in his performance review. I tried it on and NW is right about its fit.

  8. Is there a shank plate? Had to go back to older Kobe models because the lack of arch support in the 9.

Will the lunarlon insole fit inside a KB5, and would that be a good idea?

  9. Nightwing in your trip to Nike did you get any info on the hyperposite 2? Anxious to see if they will drop and if not why? Perhaps to low of a profit margin to release?

  10. I just picked mine up from HOH in Sawgrass, FL. These feel pretty good but I haven’t gotten to ball in them yet. I’m looking forward to it though. If they’re good then I’ll pick up the all black version too.

  11. Hey night wing I know that the outsole is good for outdoor use but would the hyperfuse upper be durable enough that it won’t rip on you outdoors?

  12. Copping them tomorrow! Though prices here usually are higher because of tax. Supposed to be a P4400 shoe costs as much as P5495! Although I’m pretty sure it’ll be very worth it!

  13. Fantastic, I love the review. I’d just got the Dirty Cactus- had been waiting on it’s price drop. I ran into the black out, got to say with the colorks shown on these, the knowledge gained from this I ordered the black out. Definately loving it. For sure the Kobe logo being a part of the actual shoe is really impressive, from what I was told there are details all over these. Really a great move by Nike. I’ve been loving the KD Trey, I’m not a fan of straps and sticking with the D Rose Boost Alternate for most league game’s, so much better than the L Train material wise. I’m definately going to break these out, truthfully this is the first year since the Rose line I’ve purchased a Nike at release price. I really am stoked about the Dame’s- that’ll make 4 low tops but it’s Kobe going out, Dame coming in. Love it. I truely have always admired Kobe;s work ethifc and really never have seen anything like it. Watched a documentary that showed how he had trained himself to work out his calf during actual REM sleep- so the 4 am could mean a lot of things. Play the man!
