Nike Hyperposite 2 Performance Review

Big men rejoice… there is a shoe just for you…

Nike Hyperposite 2 Performance Review 1Traction –
The traction on the Hyperposite 2 is very similar to the Hyperdunk 2014 in terms of looks, so I wasn’t expecting much at first. Fortunately they grip the floor better than the Hyperdunk 2014, and I think it was due to the fact that you can barely flex the shoe – at least I couldn’t – so the floor is constantly in contact with the outsole. There are times when the outsole isn’t in contact with the floor as well… if you’re trying to be light on your feet, cut, curl or just be mobile on-court… these will not aid you in that. If you’re a quick player, these won’t be ideal for you, but if you’re a post payer then these will work well.

Cushion – Full length 360 Zoom – or Max Zoom as I like to call it – is used, much like the LeBron X. They feel similar to the LeBron X Elite, pretty high PSI in the bag so there is no instability issues. They’re super springy, & ultra responsive, but the Phylon midsole… that thing is stiff as hell. I experience a bit of foot fatigue while wearing them, and it’s not the best feeling. If you’re a smaller player then this might happen to you as well. A friend of mine has been playing in them as well, he’s 6’5″, and he experienced the same thing… so it just might be the shoe this time around, and not just because I’m small. On the bright side, if you need maximum cushion… it doesn’t get any more maximum than this.

Materials – Posite makes up the entire upper, and there is also an internal bootie that makes up the interior. The outer Posite shell is durable as hell, but not too flexible. At the forefoot you’ll experience some awkward flexing, nothing that causes a sloppy fit, but it’ll be distracting in the beginning. Comfort on-foot is solid though, much better than the original. You feel like you’re wearing a nice supportive sock rather than a Posite work boot. I didn’t notice the Posite molding to my foot like I usually do. Might be because they stripped most of the Posite material altogether. Its basically right where you need it for support, and nowhere else.

Fit – They fit true to size, wide footers might want to try them on before purchasing. Lockdown is incredible. Once you’re laced up, you’re not going anywhere. Even with the thinner, and stripped down Posite upper, you’re well contained as you would be in any other Posite model… possibly even better than any Posite model to date. Since the Posite has been thinned out, it moves around your foot a lot better. This is probably why I can’t feel it ‘molding’ to my foot, since it already wraps around my foot perfectly. Usually when you lace up a Posite model, there is a few weeks where you and the shoe feel like two completely separate piece, trying to move in two different directions. That isn’t the case with these… this is like wearing the Huarache, but made out of Posite.

Support – If I could sum things up with a simple phrase… like a rock. For someone like myself, a little too much support, but if you’re a large post player then I can see these being beneficial. The flat base provides you with plenty of stability, and the upper fitting so well only enhances the support provided. Again, these aren’t really for quick players… so if you’re looking for support, but also something that will help you retain your mobility then this isn’t it. These are big man shoes… and they’ll provide a big man with everything they need.

Nike Hyperposite 2 Performance Review 6

Overall – Not a shoe for me, but for larger athletes these could be ideal. If you’re looking for stability, maximum cushion and plenty of support… the Hyperposite 2 is where it’s at. And like I said before, these are not for smaller players looking for support and great cushion… there are other shoes for that. These are made with big men in mind… so if you’re a true big man that needs what the Hyperposite 2 offers… this might be your favorite shoe to play in.

  1. Nightwing how do you think of how each aspect of the shoe is doing during games? I can only think of traction and cushion.

      1. I should have been more clear, my bad. What am trying to ask is when you wear test how shoes, in the middle of basketball games how do you think of every aspect of the shoe, while staying focused on the game

          1. That is actually pretty cool. I can only think of cushion and traction. But the rest of my thought process is “Don’t Miss Dont Miss Dont Miss” or “Dont get scored on”

  2. I think foot fatigue is also dependent on your foot as well as weight – simple mass across surface area. Those orthodic support maps would tell you how you foot behaves – whether your feet distribute your weight evenly or has sharper points. With that said I do experience foot fatigue on some zoom air shoes – 185lbs size 9.0 high arches.
Keep up the great work on the site!

  3. Hey Nightwing2303, do you know if they will be coming out with any new colorways?? The ones right now are all horrible, hoping for a clean, simple colorway.

  4. Thanks for the review. These actually got discounted to $169.97 on Nike. I still think they will go a lot lower.

  5. Thanks for doing these reviews.

I have the Lebron X and I don’t like it. I feel the Max Zoom has way too much give for me. It causes my flatter feet to roll in really easily.

Would you say this is stiffer? I bought some Super.Fly 2’s on your recommendation for $60. Amazing shoe.

  6. Great review! Nightwing….. What’s next? The 808? Or something else? It sucks we don’t have these in my country.

  7. But the biggest size for this model is only 14. Meanwhile these are made for big men which is most likely to have big foot….

    1. Couldn’t agree more! As a big man myself i looked at the originals for a new hoop shoe, but they don’t make any in my size 15. I had hoped they’d go bigger with these but they didn’t. Makes no sense to me

  8. Nightwing, I don’t have a lot of money to buy two or three shoes a year so I need a durable yet good shoe. What shoes wouLD recommend?

  9. Nightwing, I am thinking about grabbing a pair for my summer league. Are these gonna wear down outside or do you think the rubber should be ok?

  10. It sucks that they only released these colors. Im not sure what the idea was behind that. These are nowhere near what anyone might consider a team color or easy to wear casually.

  11. Im trying to decide on a good pair of summer basketball shoes. I want to know which is the better performer out of these shoes- D Rose 5 boost, Hyperrev 2015, Hyperchase (gradient), UA anatomix spawn 2, UA anatomix spawn 1 low, Micro G torch (clutchfit), or nike Prime Hype. Sorry for the long list, I ordered this in terms of my favorites just form looks and try on but I need a more informed opinion.

    1. Hey ,you could add what you need from your shoes so nw or other can help you decide, because each of those has their own merit and flaw

  12. I twisted my ankle hella times in the lebron 10s because of how clunky and the flexiblity issue, do u think its the same with this shoe?

  13. I have a lebron x before, and i like firmer shoe for my style of play, the lebron x is hella bouncy on me(im a heavy guy mind you),so when i put bron x ,i feel like the zoom make my feet work extra harder, due to the bouncyness of zoom,so i was wondered how different are these to lebron x

  14. Would these be good if you have hallux rigidous in your big toe but still want to play? The orthopedic solution is a full carbon insole but that kills the cushioning since the stuff carbon plate is right under your insole. These might limit toe flexibility while keeping the soft landings.

  15. I have to have a firm sole to my kicks, especially when ballin. I have issues wit my arches so this looks like it may be a way to go. Solid review, thanks. Peace.
