For Chinese New Year New Balance has dressed four of its premier silhouettes in striking red and black colorways that use all sorts of materials.
First, the New Balance 574 Sport ‘Chinese New Year’ ($120) flaunts a red and black knit forefoot and rides atop a white Fresh Foam midsole. Synthetic leather accents, an internal bootie, and a golden dog tag (for the Year of the Dog) finish off this silhouette. (To learn more about this silhouette check out our Test Shoot segment.)
The NB 365 ($130) of this pack features a matte black leather upper that is designed to conform to the shape of your foot. The leather is perforated at the medial forefoot for ventilation and aesthetic appeal, while the shoe rides atop an Abzorb midsole. It too uses a slip-on bootie-like construction and comes with a golden dog tag.
The New Balance 247 ‘Chinese New Year’ ($120) echoes the colorway used on the NB 365 of this pack. Outfitted in dark perforated leather, the shoe rides atop a RevLite midsole for lightweight cushioning and a milky outsole. Red accents provide pops of color, and of course, the golden dog tag is included.
Finally, the New Balance Cypher Run ($100), a neutral cushioned runner, rounds out the Chinese New Year collection. It’s split nearly 50-50 between the red and black that dominate this collection, and differentiates itself with a speckled midsole. A toggle lacing system cinches the bootie tight — and yes, you’ll get the golden dog tag with this pair.
