It looks like the latest Concepts collab is with a brand nobody’s ever heard of: Karhu. Unless you aren’t into collecting and rocking vintage sneakers or you have never left the States, you’ve probably never heard of Karhu. They are a Finnish brand that currently fabricates skis and shoes. In the past, for the 1920 Antwerp Olympics (yes this brand is that old) Karhu manufactured track spikes, javelins, and discuses. Nevertheless, it looks like they’ve gone the same route as Diadora, another brand that was relatively unknown to the U.S. marketplace until recently–they’ve started doing collabs with boutiques.
Concepts has revived one of Karhu’s classic silhouettes, the Aria ’95, for their latest project. Now updated both visually and technically, this collaborative pair pays homage to Finland’s Helsinki Central railway station. If you’ve never been there let me tell you that these reflect the green copper roofs and beautiful granite perfectly, as well as incorporating some orange from Finland’s world-renowned sunsets.
Karhu is back in a big way; retros of their older models are popping up at all the usual European boutiques including Overkill Shop and Titolo. The Concepts x Karhu Aria ’95 should put the brand on the map in the States. The shoes release this Saturday, June 20, 2015 both online and in-store at Concepts. Thoughts? Share them below.
