A Kyrie Irving Character, Uncle Drew, is Getting His Own Movie

Arguably one of the most esteemed basketball commercial series ever, the “Uncle Drew” spot from Pepsi, will soon be a feature-length movie.

Based on a series of Pepsi commercials starring NBA star Kyrie Irving, the story follows a street baller, Dax, who risks it all to enter a basketball tournament based in Harlem. According to TheWrap, Dax is determined to win the tournament and asks his uncle (Uncle Drew) to return to the court, along with his old teammates.

Dax’s long-time rival will be played by comedian and Broadway star Nick Kroll.

The movie will feature appearances from basketball legends — Uncle Drew’s old teammates — Shaquille O’Neal, Chris Webber, Reggie Miller, Nate Robinson, and Lisa Leslie.

The film will be directed by Charles Stone III, the director behind the Nick Cannon hit Drumline. Stone III also created of the popular “Whassup” campaign for Budweiser.

Filming is currently underway now in Atlanta and has a release date set for June 29, 2018 — the start of the 2018 summer blockbuster season.
