Kobe Drops Hint at Updated Retro Line

Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant posted a teaser image holding the Nike Zoom Kobe 1 with a quote that spurred on all kinds of speculation.

The quote, “We’re always looking to build on things that we’ve done in the past to try to improve them,” may be a hint that another Kobe retro signature line is coming.

Though Nike has celebrated Kobe’s illustrious career with the “Fade To Black” pack during his last season in the league, there has yet to be a retro Kobe sneaker line after his retirement. With his Kobe A.D. sneakers still going as strong as ever, it isn’t hard to imagine a retro series to commemorate Bryant’s continued commitment to basketball.

Though no release info has been announced and everything is still purely speculative, the idea of a retro Kobe line is quite compelling. Would you like to see the Kobe retros to drop soon?

In related news, Kobe Bryant is writing, hosting, and producing a new show for ESPN called Detail.

  1. I have a pair of 4’s, the POP pack. It’s probably my grail, but the size is off. So that, plus me being a pansy to ever wear them (at that time I surely couldn’t afford another pair), they’ve been worn in my room, and nowhere else.

I need another one of those…

  2. i thought i was going be able to save my tax money, kobe 1,3,4,5 pls…kobe 8 is overrated as hell its so thin all around durability is crap.nike can we pls have a batman beyond or superman/kobe collab?

  3. The only Kobe’s I need re-released are the 4’s and the 8’s. They can keep everything else. The 8 is probably the best basketball performance show of all time.

  4. As a sneakerhead who was too young to experience the past kobe models, I would love this! I am a quick light guard and love playing in kobes. When I got into sneakers they were already on the kobe 9, and I would love to experience 4-8! My favorite kobes aesthetically are 8s and 5s and I would love to get 8s or 6s for ball! I saw rumors they were going to be upgrading them for performance benefits. Truthfully, I think they would cost-cut in some areas. Any truth to the upgrading rumors?

  5. I loved the 1’s. I played in them for years until the outsole came off and you could see the carbon fiber underneath. I paid a hundred for them back in the day. They’re gonna be overpriced as a retro, but this is one where I’d probably bite. Never bought a retro ever, but I think i’ll do it now.

  6. Protro? Hmmm. PROactive reTRO?

Got lucky with the FTB 5’s and 10’s but man, if they ever re-do the 4,5,6 in flyknit…OG Colorways in flyknit? Sign. Me. Up.

  7. All of his new shoes are prolly gonna be based off the old Kobe’s just like the aj 32 looks like the aj 2 and just look at the A.D. mid it obviously takes design elements from the zoom Kobe one

  8. This sounds to me like they are going to follow Jordan and “improve” them by adding flyknit to older models. I could be wrong, but it wouldn’t surprise me if that is what goes down.

  9. Would live to ball again in the 5, best performance model I ever worn even though I will have the traction upgraded but the fit is hall of fame level.
Knowing Kobe’s mentality and reading previous comments, a retro base with a modern tweak to improve performance sounds a possible road Nike may take.

Retro base with a modern tweak to improve performance is something I will love to see, as most of the time, sig shoes do not have a evolution of the design for further years (Roger Federrer’s shoes being the only example that came to me as an opposite, i.e. taking last year shoe and improve some elements instead of designing from scratch).
      Will follow that with interest.
