Based out of Milkwaukee, Wisconsin, KicksbyUy is the world’s first customizable sneaker subscription box. Founded by Michael Uy, a WearTesters reader, the service is quite simple: customers fill out a brief survey (a style profile) that lets the company know which brands they like, what styles of shoes they’re interested in, and — depending on what tier of box you subscribe to — what kind of extras you’ll be getting.
“I did it because it was something that the sneaker world has not seen before,” Michael Uy told WearTesters. “And because selling sneakers was a passion for me.”
KicksbyUy offers three types of boxes: Starter ($75), which includes a pair of sneakers that retails for up to $120, one accessory (socks, stickers, or laces) that retails for up to $20, and a KicksbyUy sticker; Original ($95), which features a pair of sneakers that retails for up to $150, two accessories, and a KicksbyUy sticker; and Deluxe ($120), which includes a pair of sneakers that retails for up to $180, three accessories, one apparel item, and KicksbyUy stickers.
I received the Deluxe box, and to my surprise, a pair of the Nike Zoom Fly SP ‘Tokyo’ — a shoe I’d wanted to try ever since I saw it all over social media earlier this year. The hype train was rolling, and I just couldn’t find a pair I liked on sale, but KicksbyUy came through.
Moreover, the box included a Levi’s shirt that perfectly matched the kicks. The accessories included Odd Future cotton socks, Rope Lace Supply laces (a brand I love), and a ton of dope stickers that flaunt cartoonified classics like the Air Jordan 1, Air More Uptempo, Air Jordan 2, and Air Jordan 11 (I’ve already stuck a bunch of them on most of the items I own).
