Frank Cooke Shares Hybrid Air Jordan 1 With React Cushioning

Yesterday, Frank Cooke, a Jordan Brand designer responsible for the NRG footwear products, shared a pair of the Air Jordan 1 with React cushioning in an ambitious crossover.

Featuring a bulky React cushioning midsole, the hybrid sneaker replaces the original rubber midsole fans have come to know and love. But the crossover doesn’t stop there; the silhouette also comes with semi-translucent layer that shows what appears to be an Air Jordan 1 Flyknit beneath it. The look mimics that of Nike’s React Element 87.

Noticeably, the sneaker also has two tongues with the translucent tongue sitting atop the original one, which can be found of the Air Jordan 1 Flyknit. Interestingly, the shoe also abandons the classic Air Jordan I Nike swoosh and Wings logo on the upper area, giving it a minimalist and futuristic look.

This is simply a first look at the sneaker — which is likely a test to see how the Internets, by way of the blogs, receive this latest hybrid — so no release date has been made available.

Are you a fan of this hybrid look? Is this really what we want from sneakers in 2018? Let us know in the comment section below.

  1. Being a Jordan NRG designer, must be as boring as a Porsche designer. The only thing you are allowed to do is use the same models or design language that is used in the Jordan 1-13 series. That’s why i like this design. It’s not an iteration, although the toebox could use some more inspiration.

  2. Literally the only thing on this shoe that reminds of the Jordan 1 in the toe under the stupid see through material. Otherwise I don’t see anything else. Also, they’re incredibly ugly… Here’s to hoping this trend goes away sooner than later!

  3. Honestly as the shoe by itself i like the idea and look, but calling it a Jordan 1 hybrid is too much for me. It looks more like in inspiration art piece than an actual Jordan. I’d like to see what colorways they do if they decide to proceed with this.
