Foot Locker and PENSOLE Open Registration for “Fueling the Future of Footwear” Design Competition

Today, PENSOLE footwear Design Academy, in collaboration with Foot Locker, has opened registration for its 2017 “Fueling the Future of Footwear” design competition.

According to PENSOLE, the “Fueling the Future of Footwear” is a hands-on, intensive design master-class and competition created to discover and realize the future of the footwear industry. This year it is powered by Foot Locker and Asics Tiger.

“This is the fourth of a highly-successful series of programs in partnership with Foot Locker,” PENSOLE founder D’Wayne Edwards said in a statement. “It is our joint mission to foster the next generation of emerging footwear design talent. ‘Fueling the Future of Footwear’ has become widely known for finding the best young designers around the globe.”

A total of 18 students will be selected for the 2017 installment of the class. It will be hosted at PENSOLE in Portland, Oregon from July 31 to August 18, and that group will be split into six teams of three. According to PENSOLE, the curriculum will cover the product creation process, materials, and marketing. Each team must create a product based on a specific brief by Foot Locker and Asics.

Beginning today, prospective students can register in three different categories: footwear, color/material/finishing, and business. All applications must be submitted through this link and the deadline for registration is June 25.

All 18 students chosen for the “Fueling the Future of Footwear” will be announced on July 5. The students will receive free tuition and housing (approximately $5,000 per student).
