Foot Locker Kicks off the Fifth Annual ‘Week of Greatness’ with the Funniest Ads Yet

If you tuned in to the WearTesters socials last night you know that WearTesters’ staffers NYJumpman23 and TheShoeRestorer covered Foot Locker’s ‘Week of Greatness’ event last night. It was a cool party and deservedly so: this year marks the five-year anniversary of the ‘Week of Greatness’ — a week of some of the hottest sneaker and gear releases.

This year’s releases include the Air Jordan 9 Retro ‘Kobe’, Under Armour Curry 3 ‘Dub Nation Home’, Air Jordan 3 Retro ‘True Blue’, adidas Harden Vol. 1 Black/Gold, Puma Clyde in Oatmeal/Black, Nike Zoom KD9 ‘Game Royal’, and Kid’s Nike Kyrie 2 White/Metallic Silver/Tour Yellow — but that’s just to name a few!

Peter Rosenberg of HOT97 hosted the event beside DJ Cipha Sounds who ran the wheels and kept the tunes right all night. After debuting some of the hilarious new TV spots for the Week of Greatness, Carmelo Anthony joined the pair on stage and discussed his involvement in this year’s campaign; this year, he aims to provide a deeper meaning than just sneakers, and hinted that the themes of social justice and the current political climate would be addressed.

There are five new ads this year, created by worldwide agency BBDO, and they include Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, forward Carmelo Anthony, rapper Ja Rule, point guard Kyrie Irving, and European football stars Gareth Bale and Anthony Martial — yes, the Week of Greatness will also be celebrated in Europe, and Kids Foot Locker will also take part.

“Celebrating our fifth ‘Week of Greatness,’ with hilarious anecdotes of greatness from the likes of Tom Brady, Carmelo Anthony, Ja Rule, Kyrie Irving and more is really special,” said Jake Jacobs, EVP and CEO for Foot Locker North America. “This is an event that our customers truly look forward to and we’re proud to have grown the campaign over the years.”

The athletes also seem to enjoy the yearly campaign’s lighthearted and comical attitude.

“Foot Locker always has hysterical spots with athletes and celebs making fun of themselves; I’m in good company,” said Anthony. “I have high expectations for myself and am very proud of my accomplishments, but it’s only healthy to laugh at yourself now and then.”

“I always look forward to the Week of Greatness,” said Irving. “Having the opportunity to be a part of it, working with a great group of kids and showcasing a new Kyrie2 colorway is exciting.”

Foot Locker has also teamed up with PINTRILL to create an exclusive limited-edition pin pack to commemorate five years of the Week of Greatness. Customers who purchase Week of Greatness product in select cities will have gift with purchase opportunities to receive one of 500 pin packs globally.

Just in time for the holiday gift-buying season, new releases will drop every day in Foot Locker and Kids Foot Locker stores globally beginning November 19.
