Nike has collaborated with Laika animation on every movie it has released by creating a special edition sneaker that is auctioned off for charity. This year the upcoming motion picture Kubo and the Two Strings will get over 300 pairs of customized Jordan Brand sneakers (they look like AJ 15’s to us), to celebrate the movies release on August 19.
Nike is also giving away over 100 pairs that you can win completely free. All the info you need is in the press release below.
Nike continues the popular tradition of creating collectible shoes for Laika Animation movies with the launch of the Kubo XV sneaker.
Building upon a tradition which began seven years ago with acclaimed animation studio LAIKA’s first release Coraline, famed NIKE designer Tinker Hatfield is readying the much-anticipated Kubo XV sneaker to celebrate this month’s new LAIKA movie Kubo and the Two Strings.

The Kubo XV follows in the footsteps of specially designed sneakers for each of the three previous LAIKA movies: Coraline, The Boxtrolls, and ParaNorman. Mr. Hatfield designed shoes inspired by the films; the latter proved to be a particularly popular shoe, and each new issue has become a collector’s item.
Over 300 pairs of the customized Jordan Brand sneakers celebrating the spirit and magic of the movie’s young hero Kubo are being made available to fans who compete to win pairs through exciting multimedia platforms. The ways to win are as unique as the shoe itself.
Focus Features, which is releasing the epic new adventure nationwide on August 19, is partnering with top website Complex to unveil the shoe tomorrow, August 4, at www.complex.com.
Complex will also announce an online sweepstakes* beginning later this week, hosted by the website, where its followers will have a chance to win one of five pairs of the Kubo XV.
On August 8, the Just Keep Livin Foundation (www.jklivinfoundation.org) will host a live eBay auction with dozens of pairs of Kubo XV sneakers up for bidding; all the proceeds will go to the Foundation’s programs that teach the importance of decision-making, health, education, and active living.
