The Internet has seen several attempts at dyeing the denim Levi’s x Air Jordan 4 ‘White’ but what @jennizerr has done to her pair is truly striking.
Jennifer Ro has been into sneakers for the better part of 25 years and she is no stranger to custom shoes or coveted limited releases. Jennifer altered the midsoles of the Stash x Nike Zoom Spiridon to give them much more graffiti flair — something the original pair should have had (once you see how great her pair looks) — and she is a master of the minimalist photography style that is changing social media.
When I saw what Jennifer did to her pristine pair of white denim Levi’s x Air Jordan 4 I had to know more. Was it difficult — either physically or emotionally — to dye a pair of sneakers as revered and coveted as this Air Jordan 4?
“It wasn’t hard as much as it was risky,” Jennifer told WearTesters. “Once I dipped the shoes into the dye, there was no turning back.” This may have been her first time dyeing shoes but the results are extraordinary — and a completely different look than what Jordan Brand was offering with this release. She’s also got pointers for those that want to alter their pairs.
“I should’ve taped the sole before dyeing because it [dye] absorbed into the rubber, but color remover helped fix that,” Jennifer told me. “This was my first time dyeing a pair of shoes so I was definitely concerned with how things would come out. Luckily, things went as planned.”
And this custom was definitely planned. Like white-on-white Chuck Taylors and Air Force 1s still sold at art supply stores all over the world, a white-on-white shoe is a canvas for those with the imagination to harness it. And if that canvas is denim the possibilities are nearly endless.
“There was absolutely no way I wasn’t going to dye my white Levi’s Jordan 4,” Jennifer wrote on Instagram. “Super happy they dropped in small sizes, too. It was risky to do this custom, but I went for it anyway. Start that project, take a chance, make mistakes. It’s all worth it in the end.”
