As we all know, there are NBA players with expiring contracts this Summer. Not expiring NBA contracts but rather endorsement deals with sneaker companies.
The biggest name on the market is Dwyane Wade. It’s already been rumored that he has a good chance of leaving Jordan Brand, especially after the Fly Wade 3 was scrapped – but from what I hear its actually true. Come next season we should begin to see Wade rock Li-Ning on-court. I personally don’t mind since I’m very fond of Li-Ning and their products are great on-court and moderately priced. Do I think Wade’s stature will help sell sneakers… honestly, no. If he couldn’t sell sneakers under Jordan Brand then it would take a lot to sell his kicks under a Chinese based brand… at least here in the U.S. market. His sales will likely skyrocket overseas.
The biggest surprise – for me – was finding out who will replace Wade. According to sources, Michael Jordan himself thinks that Russell Westbrook is best suited to be part of the Brand Jordan. I’m not exactly sure why… Russell may slightly resemble a rookie MJ but I don’t believe he – as of now – embodies the on-court legacy that MJ had built with his signature line.
Until things have officially been announced this should still be considered a rumor, however, don’t be too surprised if Wade signs with Li-Ning and Westbrook joins Jordan Brand.
Feel free to share your thoughts below in the comments section.
Would you like to see Westbrook on Team Jordan? Having OKC colorways wouldn’t be horrible.
How do you feel about Wade joining Li-Ning? Only issue I have is that Li-Ning is not widely available stateside – except online & in Chicago I believe – so it wouldn’t be great for most fans who may want to purchase a pair.
