Tokyo-based DESCENDANT has a new look for the adidas Rivalry Low, a classic ’80s basketball sneaker.
Forty years ago, when signature basketball sneakers where still in their infancy, one of the more noticeable silhouettes on the hardwood was Patrick Ewing’s adidas Rivalry sneaker (he was signed with adidas before he ventured out and created his own brand). Now, some 30 years after its introduction, Japanese clothing store DESCENDANT has teamed up with adidas Originals for its second collaboration.
With the help of Toru Nishiyama, DESCENDANT designed two new iterations of the Rivalry Low with fine leather uppers and the store’s branding on the tongue. The sneaker rides atop a rubber cupsole and regular EVA so it should offer adequate cushioning for casual wear.
The adidas Originals Rivalry Low x Descendant in ‘Blue/White’ and ‘Silver/White’ is set to release on May 26 for ¥19,440 (approx. $175 USD). Both colorways will be available exclusively on the adidas Japan website as well as select adidas accounts in Japan.
