Contract Shows John Wall Will Not Be Getting a Signature Sneaker

Contract Shows John Wall Will Not Be Getting Signature Sneaker1

John Wall has reunited with adidas and the new contract, obtained by Sports Illustrated, indicates that adidas will not continue Wall’s sneaker line.

While eccentric in his playing style, Wizards point guard John Wall’s signature shoes have never been hot commodities. After only a couple years, Wall decided to leave the three stripes brand because he was upset that his base pay, $7.5 million per year, was only half what the brand was paying adidas co-star James Harden ($15 million per year).

After several years as a free agent, Wall decided to rekindle with adidas this season for a five-year deal with a base payment of $4.25 million per year with slight fluctuations. The contract also indicates that Wall will not be getting a signature shoe; however, he will have the opportunity to work with artists such as Kanye West and Pharrell on special product.

Though the reason for not having a J Wall signature shoe remains largely unknown, it is reasonable to speculate that mediocre sales and lack of revenue generation from his previous sneakers have something to do with it.

Although Wall will not get a signature shoe line and nor will he get a huge pay day like Derrick Rose, there are certain incentives like averaging 20-10, getting into the All-Star Game, and even winning the championship that will allow him to earn millions more if he meets the different criteria.

To read the specifics of his new adidas contract head to Sports Illustrated.

  1. Reading the bonus is actually funny. adidas cares more about winning in an All-Star game than the NBA but adidas does not care about DEFENCE!!! If John Wall averages like 4+ blocks and/or steals per game he would only get $50k – $100k?? Bro should get like $1M for being a guard that leads the league in blocks.

    1. bruh lets be honest how many blocks shown on highlights reel? you expect a guard to lead the league in blocks? and even if he did get it, whose winning? adidas.

  2. I heard they deduct $10000 every time one of his teammates says that everybody eats when he doesn’t play. Any truth to that?

  3. “Another significant term of the agreement pertains to Wall’s health. Under most footwear and apparel contracts, athletes face reductions and pro-rations when they are injured and unable to perform. But thanks to a bit of savvy by Wall’s representatives (or a curious concession by Adidas), Wall is subject to no reductions or pro-rations for the first two years. Not until 2019-2020, must he play a minimum of 60 games to avoid pro-ration.”

Apparently Adidas has learned nothing from the Rose debacle. They could very well get burned with this deal and I wouldn’t feel too bad for them, but I won’t be pleased if/when they raise prices across the board to create pension funds for Penny Hardaway clones.

  4. That makes sense. The designers of his old sigs did him dirty and gave him bricks. If he had good shoes from the beginning they would’ve sold, but now its too late.

In theory, he is the perfect candidate for a sig: an exciting, allstar perimeter player. But his older models blew it. Also he should’ve taken the money back in the day instead of being a shoe free agent.
