An Asics Gel Kayano 5 Retro Was Spotted at Paris Fashion Week

Fans of vintage sneakers will be happy to know that the incredibly ’90s Asics Gel Kayano 5 was spotted at the GmbH Spring 2019 Menswear fashion show.

While quite similar to the 1994 Gel Kayano 4, the 1995 Gel Kayano 5 (TN900) upped the ante when it came to the shoe’s aesthetics. It exposed much more of the shoe’s tech — both underfoot and in the midsole — and ditched the sweeping eyestay from the Kayano 4 for a much more aggressive look. The Kayano 5 also brought a different heel design and many more reflective accents.

At Paris Fashion Week, an Asics Gel Kayano 5 retro was spotted on the feet of several models in GmbH’s Spring 2019 Menswear show. Many of the shoes releasing for the current “dad shoe” trend are based on ’90s runners or re-releases of then-bulky runners with striking overlays. And while there is no official word on when the Kayano 5 will return to retail, it’s good to know someone at Asics is working to re-release these classic styles.

We will update this story as it develops. For now, let us know if you’d pick up the Asics Gel Kayano 5 in 2018.
