Under Armour Fall/Winter 2016 – Men’s Apparel

Under Armour fall winter 2016 18

Yesterday Under Armour unveiled its Fall/Winter 2016 collections and I was there to capture it all. If you were tuning in to the WearTesters Snapchat or Twitter you saw some of these items briefly. Let’s get into detail.

Jacquard is almost everywhere now, and it was just a matter of time before Under Armour did it too. Now on tops and leggings, the Jacquard HeatGear offers a slightly different texture that feels much more like a fabric (you can’t really tell in the picture above but the Jacquard material is in a small hex pattern).

Under Armour invented the “base layer” (compression) category and is making improvements to it, namely the removal of seams at the armpits (now it’s just one stretch panel) and the addition of ventilating mesh. New textures for the base layers as well; pictured here is more of a heathered look.

Pictured in the above photo on the left is the Under Armour Stalker Pullover ($60). It features a new technology called Microthread that is lighter than elastane, with just as much stretch and better recovery. Additionally, Microthread dries faster than elastane and feels less synthetic — more like cotton. The technology was introduced on the UA tee and 1/4 zip for Spring 2016 but it’s back on new garments for Fall/Winter 2016.

Let’s switch ColdGear. Launching in the outdoor collection, the UA ColdGear Reactor jacket ($225) utilizes an adaptive aerobic insulation. As opposed to down, it’s a synthetic insulation that is more breathable. Some things to note: these jackets feature UA’s proprietary Magzip, which magnetically locks the zipper to make it easier to zip up with gloves or mittens on. Next, conventional insulation requires continuous quilting so it doesn’t all bunch up at the base of the jacket — the ColdGear Reactor has disjointed quilted paneling which is much more aesthetically pleasing. Additionally, these jackets are STORM2 so windproof and water resistant.

Next up is the UA STORM1 Sports-style Anorak (~$80). It’s 100% polyester with a bit of stretch. It is also easy to taper the length, if one needed to do so. The thing to note here is the bright media pocket within the large pass through pocket; it can fit up to an iPhone 6 Plus and is elastic so it will hold and secure your phone while you’re working out or running.

Now, leggings, short, 3/4 length, and full, feature UA’s proprietary CoolSwitch technology. It is a print on the interior of the leggings that uses xylitol, a chemical activated by water and air that creates the cool breeze feeling — much like when you chew mint gum with xylitol in it. High wear areas of the leggings like the back of the knee have now been done up in open mesh to ventilate faster.

Lastly, Under Armour’s big story for FW16 is in the fleece and warm up category. The UA Storm Swacket ($120) fuses the comfort of a sweatshirt and the functionality of a jacket. The garment weighs only 320 grams features woven overlays throughout the body and hood as well as reflective trims that are almost unnoticeable (until lit up). This fleece Swacket comes in two forms, a full zip and pullover, and it could be a real L.L. Bean and Columbia killer. Ten colorways for men and nine colorways for women.

As always, let me know in the comments what UA has planned for Fall/Winter 2016 that has you excited.
