The Air Jordan 4 Retro in Black/Cement for 2019 gets a full breakdown and review.
On May 4, 2019 the Nike Air Jordan 4 Retro returns for the first time since 1999. Yes, there were Retro releases of the Air Jordan 4 in Black/Cement in 2008 and 2012, but they have not released the Nike Air version of the shoe other than its original 1989 release and the first Retro release in ’99.
The 2019 version is the closest to the 1999 Retro that we’ve seen since its original launch. Sporting a synthetic Durabuck upper, Nike Air branding on the insole, outsole and rear heel tab and a PU insole for additional comfort. Its overall shape, while not perfect, is also a little more refined than the previous 2012 iteration.
For $200 I feel most OG Air Jordan fans will love the product. However, there are some that cannot be pleased and I don’t think this Retro will be the one to change their minds.
Unfortunately, when we receive nicer materials on classic colorways some people complain. When we get materials truer to the original product some people complain. Simply put — it is what it is.
For me, I’m just happy to have the opportunity to buy a pair that looks as good as they do. I was very young in 1989, too broke in 1999, and couldn’t grab all the 2008 Countdown Packs I wanted. 2012 was my very first pair of Black/Cement Air Jordan 4s, and I was happy with those. With this version of the shoe being closer to the one I remember my classmates wearing while in High School (1999 for me), I’m very pleased with how they turned out. No, they’re not constructed with premium materials. Nowhere close — and they never were.
Good luck to anyone trying to grab a pair on May 4. Whether this is your very first pair of Black/Cement Air Jordan 4s or just the latest in your collection of every year they’ve ever released — I hope you’re able to buy the pair you want and enjoy them they way that suits you best.

Back in ’99, I had my $100 set aside for the white/cements, and the black/cements ended up coming out first, so I went and blew the money elsewhere. Didn’t bother with the CDP because of the Jumpman (and I only wanted the 17/6 for the Carmines anyway).
