Air Jordan 13 Retro ‘Black Cat’ Deconstructed

Good news, folks. The Air Jordan 13 Retro for 2017 does not have any tech missing from the shoe! However, the fact that we’re excited about this is a big problem — for Jordan Brand.

FastPass.cn stays steady with the workload as they have just deconstructed the recently released Air Jordan 13 Retro ‘Black Cat’.

After the debacle that was the Air Jordan 15 Retro OG, wherein Jordan Brand decided to remove the forefoot Zoom Air unit that was featured on every rendition of the shoe until the 2017 re-release, it seems that things are back to normal. Sort of.

Jordan Brand desperately needs to regain the trust of its consumers. Yes, people will still buy Jordans because they’re Jordans, but you’ll also lose consumers in the process. Not everyone is stupid, and some people value their dollars more than Jordan Brand seems to value its heritage. MJ was once known as the greatest basketball player to ever live. Now he’s being regarded as a brand that releases shoddy products that are replicas of the originals. Not a great way to celebrate a legacy.

With this year’s scheduled releases of Air Jordan 13s, many were worried that they too would be stripped of their tech. Luckily, that isn’t the case. Not only is heel and forefoot Zoom Air right where it’s supposed to be, but it’s pretty thick (which is awesome). The AJ13 is one of my favorites in terms of comfort and on-court use. It’s a bit clunky at the heel, but once you get used to it it’s really fun to play in. Additionally, the carbon fiber plate is actually made of carbonized fibers. Is carbonized a word? Insert MJ’s shoulder shrug here.

At any rate, enjoy FastPass’ latest deconstruction featuring the Air Jordan 13 Retro ‘Black Cat’ and stay tuned for more deconstruction posts in the future. I’m not sure about you, but now I’m even more excited for the White/Red 13s release in the next couple of weeks. Can’t wait to grab a fresh pair of those. The last pair I bought I used for the Air Jordan Project’s AJ13 Performance Review

  1. did fastpass have an issue with weartester? i saw nyjumpman comment on their recent followup article about the jordan xv deconstruction and the noise it created. The site is in chinese and google translation was crappy so just making sure on what the message of that article was about.

no mistake i love their deconstruction posts. I believe i saw them first from a properly referenced article from kicksoncourt/weartesters too.

The indiglo (?) XIV deconstruction was also interesting. The peeps from NT compared them with pix of deonstructed OG xivs. There is FF zoom on the retro but it is missing one pod that sits directly on the ball of the foot. The retro only placed an FF zoom that is almost at the midfoot section. Cost cutting somewhat.

    1. Not sure, but I hope they don’t have a problem. It’s hard to tell what people are saying when it comes to Google translate. Their post made it look as if we weren’t issuing proper credit to them as the source of the deconstruction posts, but we always have and always will properly source where images or information comes from. Hopefully they don’t have a problem with us. But you never know.

      1. I just had a quick look and it seems like fp was talking about how solecollector when reported nightwing’s rant on twitter, didn’t source where nightwing see the constructed pics. Fortunately the pictures nightwing uploaded on twitter had fp’s watermarks so it was a non-issue.

A quick suggestion, fastpass had descriptions under each pic explaining what they are measuring and what to look out for for each deconstructed part of the shoe. I’m not sure if it’d be possible for u guys to do the same (translation would be an issue), but it’d be more story-telling for English readers.

        Thx guys!

        1. you maybe right. The deconstruction article on weartester did mention fastpass but NWs comparison/rant on instagram didnt reference them via mention. Only the picture with Fp’s watermark was shown. That might be what they are referring in Fp’s article..

    2. well if NW did in fact credited them, I guess the problem lies on the Weartester followers which give more credit to NW than FP. I did read some disturbing posts dismissing FP and giving more credit to NW as the source of the info on shoe deconstruction. not faulting NW, but I guess followers need to be more mature about it rather than become silly fanboys.

      1. There is no if. I did. Factual information. I tagged them in the post on the image. Just as we source and link to the source here on the site. We do not steal like other IG accounts/sites. We give credit to anyone we post information from.

Only articles I saw told it as it was. Which was that I called out JB for the issue that was found when FP deconstructed the shoe. Again, that is factual information. Nobody knew who FP was until we ran across their work and thought it was great stuff so we shared it on the site.

Did you read some misinformed posts about it? Possibly. Do most people look at pictures instead of reading or checking to see if someone tagged a source? Yes. Is any of that disturbing? I don’t think so.

        1. no, I am Chinese and can read that.
Fastpass has an issue with another Chinese site, flightclub.cn
Flightclub directly translated the news from sole collector about nightwing’s Instagram post, yet intentionally left out the name of the source “fastpass”.
I guess there are competitors, so the problem is between fast pass and flight club. Not to wear tester.

    3. actually fast pass has an issue with another Chinese site, Flightclub.cn, translating the solecollector article about rightwing’s Instagram post, but omitting the name “fastpass”. So it is the beef between those two Chinese site rather than to wear tester.

  2. Hard to tell with Nike. I’m kinda surprised they didn’t skimp here because this isn’t even an OG or remaster. More incentive to try to get these on the low, but the supposed upcoming 13 colorways this year >>>>

I picked up the Take Flight 8’s instead. Believe 8’s are supposed to have both heel and forefoot air units but Nike advertises just the heel for this release. I’m not sure if it’s old news with retro 8’s or something.

  3. LOL! I have always thought of the XIII as a nice alternative Big Man shoe, due to the high ankle cut and solid foundation of that shoe. If Nike would have cut corners on the XIII, I think that it would have sent a huge signal to retailers, then thwarting Nike’s ability to use Jordan as a Trojan Horse. Nike has a rep of pulling Jordan accounts from stores that do not buy other junk they are trying to sell.

  4. Hahaha it’s sad. Absolute love the kicks but it ‘s so sad i’m also excited about not being a retro rip off…lol.

  5. How come they didn’t put that metal outline plate that they normally have on the 13’s? that was one of my favorite features

  6. After I saw the post about the 15s missing tech I was ready to return mine when they arrived then I tried them on and felt an actually decent zoom unit so to those on the fence they are comfy.

  7. Hello,
I have 2 pairs of the White and Red, and both have a left shoe more comfortable than the right.
I asked my mother and my girl friend to try it, even if the shoe are too long, and both told me the same thing, the left shoe is more comfortable in the heel than the right. I asked my girl friend to try my 8 Aqua, and she said the same thing left shoe is more comfortable. My 2016 11 Space jam had the same problem, the airsole unit was more impressiv behind the insole than the right, my AJ 10 Double nickel too. I can’t play or walk in my AJ due to this problem. I feel my left heel so comfortable each time and my right heel so hard. If i was alone to feel that maybe i could have a problem but i’m not alone. I have ever sent back my Space Jam, and other AJ.
I’d like to hear your comment on that as well.

    1. I add, i play basketball with Superfly 4 and actually i’m adding 2 soles just in the heel (i cut 2 long sole) of my right feet. So not only retro’s have this problem, but the reason i’m doing that with my Superfly 4 is because i played with and my right heel destroyed the right shoe really quikly.
(about SP4 i just discovered on that site that there is no heel zoom unit, i’m disappointed).
The only AJ which don’t give me this feeling are my first AJ12 (Neophren), i didn’t want to try the AJ12, but i’m surprised, i don’t feel a better cushion in the left shoe, it is the same right/left. That’s the first retros to give me this good feeling.
I really don’t understand this problem with other retro, trust me it is really hard to me to separate from my Double nickel, the left shoe was the perfection!! it was so hard for my space jam!! My Aqua 8 left is just perfect!! I’m not crazy because i’m not alone to discover this problem. Like if JB would like to rig the right shoe!!

    2. wow. i have the same problem with my 14 indiglo. the right forefoot cushion on mine is dead while the left forefoot cushion is alive. but I only felt it after I played in it. could it be the right forefoot zoom air bag popped when I was playing?

  8. Is there still Zoom Air in the girls grade school editions of the 13s or the Jordan 6 rings? Been seeing mixed tech specs all around the internet.
