With models like the Dame 4, Curry 4, and Kyrie 4 taking over on-court rotations nationwide, we thought the days of $200 basketball sneakers had died. We were wrong, so let us introduce the adidas Crazy BYW X.
The adidas Crazy BYW X is the on-court version of the Crazy BYW. The aesthetic differences are minor, and the price jumps $40, but the additions to this model make it a worthy hoops sneaker.
First, you may have noticed that the Boost You Wear midsole, which is decoupled at the midfoot in the casual wear BYW, is held together by a thick shank plate in the Crazy BYW X. Additionally, the traction has been upgraded to multi-directional herringbone at the forefoot and a Kobe 9-like pattern at the heel.
However, the key change to the Boost You Wear tooling comes at the forefoot. While the heel features black uncaged Boost, the forefoot is caged in a TPU coating for better response and containment.
As for the upper upgrades, the Crazy BYW X features a huge side panel overlaid atop the knit that should offer much more support than what is used on the off-court build. The collar also appears to be a compression knit for improved ventilation and fit over the Crazy BYW.
The adidas Crazy BYW X for hoopers will retail for $200 and release in very limited fashion at adidas’ 747 Warehouse St. event in Los Angeles during All-Star Weekend. There is no word yet on when or if the shoe will receive a wider launch.
