No, adidas is not making a comeback to the NBA; rather, the brand with three stripes has made a deal to become the official outfitter of the BIG3.
The BIG3 is a 3-on-3 basketball league co-founded by entertainer Ice Cube. It allows retired NBA players to compete on a large stage, and some of its headline players include Allen Iverson, Paul Pierce, and Brian Scalabrine. Clyde Drexler is the league’s commissioner.
The league and adidas agreed to a three year deal in which adidas will provide the jerseys worn by the players while creating a line of merchandise that range from tees to hoodies. adidas was outfitting the NBA for several years before Nike took over, so it’s only fitting that the brand is now a partner with a league full of retired NBA players. (adidas’ jerseys didn’t have the ripping issues Nike’s have.)
We will first see the adidas BIG3 jerseys debut during the summer when the games are scheduled to start. For more information on the league click here.
