adidas D Rose 5 Boost ‘Home’ – Detailed Look and Review

Ever since I heard the words “full length Boost for basketball,” I have had the adidas D Rose 5 Boost on my radar. I told myself it was a must-cop.

Today, I received the “Home” colorway of the D Rose 5. I found these on a Champs Sports Cyber Monday deal and could not wait any longer. The home colorway is different from other colorways because it features a more open mesh upper. This upper material should not show as much wear as the previously reviewed colorway. Once I play in them, I will have a review.

  1. Keep up the good work man, we really need a variety of performance reviews for the different color ways of the Adidas Rose 5, hopefully this model is better than the first one, probably yes but who knows. We also need a performance review for the “Chicago Ice” Rose 5.

  2. Lol, you were talking kinda quiet, so I turned the volume waay up, then that sound effect for “$112” got me.

Great video, and I hope you did well during finals, Hsuperman!

      1. true, true. lots of trusted voices with the same message re the Rose 5. Only counterkicks gives the shoe top marks. my personal experience has been very positive, but like Duke I switched out the stock insoles and seriously it made a huge difference in terms of comfort and fit.

        1. I think that is one of the complaints about the Rose 5, if only they have provided a much better insole in them, then the experience overall would have been different. it’s a work-in progress and the shoe could use a bit of improvement. the upper iteration could have been different as well, but NW tested what was practically not the best iteration of Rose 5 Boost which is not really a representative of the whole line but only that particular model.

my complaints about the Rose 5 is the upper aesthetics and average forefoot which resembles a low profile zoom unit which you don’t normally feel.

besides, this is the reason why I was advising people to go with the RG3 Boosts instead. if they didn’t mind the limited aesthetic designs and colorways, the RG3 Boosts are very much better than the Rose 5 in terms of overall performance, lockdown, comfort, responsiveness (especially in the forefoot) and even traction.

      2. I was an early adopter of the Adios Boost running shoes (lightweight performance neutrals–not the heavy Energy Boosts) last year. Love them nothing else like them. I had D Rose 3.5s, 4’s and now the 5s. 5s are by far the best of them. Great shoe.

    1. Rose 5 is pretty average, meaning disappointing. They had a great shoe in the making. Instead they botched it with the insulting insole, thin boost in the forefoot, and tons of dead space in the forefoot. Didn’t help that they used a shitty upper as their launch cw. Such a shame, I really loved the heel boost and ankle area. The rose 5 can’t beat clutchfit drive at it’s current state.

      1. the RG3 Boost should have been the Rose 5. sorry for raving about it a lot since I am really happy about them while the Rose 5 disappoints. they felt different although they seem to have the same amount and design of Boost material and insert. I can live with RG3’s stock inserts and are more manageable. even better with a standard one layer insole which seems to fully optimize the comfort at the forefoot region. very responsive and materials are way better than the Rose 5. the RG3 Boost in my opinion could have simply have been “the basketball Boost shoe” instead of the Rose 5.

      1. LOL! Collins, you really love yourself some boost bro. Hahahahaha!!! I have the RG3. I changed the insole and find them to be very comfortable. I haven’t played ball in them yet though. I still feel like they need just a little more break in time to make them perfect but from what I have read all over the web, the Rose is quite average.

        1. well, there are good reasons to love them over the Rose 5. upper is one. forefoot is another. mid-strap is another and the traction.

for some reason, I felt the Rose 5 were more contained at the forefoot while the RG3 Boosts have a bit more response. they are not perfect but they are very good and they provide me the protection that I need. the comfort is very good but a bit of a compromise due to the almost useless insert. put on a proper insole and they would be more of an airmax/zoom hybrid.

from what I see, containment and boost volume need some tweaking. like I said, not perfect but awesome otherwise.

          1. RG3 Boosts are cross-trainers. Can you hoop in them ? Yes. But they are not designed like a basketball shoe–especially the sole has small nubs on them meant for turf, etc. I doubt they can take long-term pounding of courts. I agree though the best set-up of all time is AirMax in heel and Zoom in forefoot (Air Penny 2 are my favorite shoe all-time)

          2. neither did my Melo 4’s would last longer than the RG3’s. those outsole rubbers were just super soft but yet they are called basketball shoes. it really depends on how you play them (how frequent, court type, and playing style). if you are after durability, XDR would always last an eternity. some guys have more than a pair to last them til the time to pick up the new models. give or take, 3-6 months. otherwise, they would just stack up over time. knew someone with over 50 pairs that had to sell or give away some of his shoes.

I don’t have his inventory, but there are times that I have to really burn (figurative) some of my shoes so that they won’t pile up.

  3. i really love the boost but ive bought the glow in the dark version and they feel rlly good…but they dont glow in the dark, is there anyway to activate them

  4. Can someboody tell me If the home colorway is more comfortable or has advantages or cons vs the chicago ice and brenda colorways?? help me excuse me if my grammar isn’t good I’m french

  5. Can somebody answer to my question? Nightwing or hsuperman could you? or somebody else? please, the question is on top please
