adidas Crazylight Boost 4

Not only will the adidas D Rose 5 feature Energy Boost but so will the Crazylight 4.

I’ve been sitting on the actual shoe image for months now but John Bremer shared the catalog image just moments ago and I’m actually a little disappointed with what I saw. Boost looks to only be featured in the heel… yet you should have the most responsiveness and energy return in the forefoot. Your heel may touch the floor every so often upon landing from a rebound or dunk (for those that can dunk) but your heel ins’t in contact with the ground in the same way that your forefoot is.

While I’m happy to see Boost make its way to basketball, I’ll be pretty disappointed if we don’t see it utilized where you need it most… in the forefoot of the shoe. Especially if they have the same setup for the Rose 5.

        1. If your not going to put boost in the fore foot, why even use it in a basketball shoe? I understand rebounding, but alot more people can use a forefoot cushion over a heel cushion (i definitely perfer both)

  1. So is it only boost foam on the heel? Or is the eva acting like a shell and boost foam is mimicking lunarlon in a nike shoe?

  2. Honestly.
This isn’t blowing me away the way that I had hoped.
Plus, unless Im missing something, I don’t see Boost in the forefoot.
    Whats going on.

  3. That sudden drop in collar height Tho. And horses ass I’m dying! Disappointed about the lack of forefoot boost, but I’m interested in the way they made it internal.

  4. If they made a prime knit basketball shoe with full length boost that might be the best performance shoe made to date!

  5. On the adidas winter team catalog it says theres gonna be a redesign in Winter 2015, maybe they’ll add full length boost then LOL

  6. Take my money adidas… Il be waiting for these, I’m guessing. They will release for playoff time?

  7. If i could get these $100 or less, I would cop because they look freakin amazing to me and using the first or second adidas shoe to have boost would be nice.

  8. I always wondered, how does Boost compare to the other foams like Lunarlon and Micro G in terms of longevity?

      1. I’ve heard the same. Plus my adidas Boost 1’s still feel as if they were new and I’ve had them for almost a year.

  9. One of the best shoes i ve ever seen… I want them… I dont care if there is not a boost forefoot. When you re running on the court the first thing tha hits the ground is your heel. All the impact goes to your knees so better the boost be on the heel and not on the forefoot…When you play on your forefoots the impact is being absorbed by others muscles like calves and ankles… Just remember the heel air units and the shox technology. Heel cushion must be a priority in every basketball shoe more than forefoot.. Personal Opinion. Thank you NightWing for the sneakpic you re the best…

      1. Everyone has different running styles. When I run the first thing that strikes the floor is my forefoot. Heel cushioning is important for when you do heel strike or land on your heel after jumping. These look awesome and I love shoes with good heel cushioning and will be great alternative to the Rose 5 since the forefoot will be firmer and play quicker. But I definitely can’t wait for the Rose 5 which will have full length Boost!

    1. I like em too.

Maybe forefoot boost is too soft and might not be ideal for basketball shoes, or maybe it’s a corporate measure to produce these shoes cheaply.

Either way, looking forward to these and the rose 5 which is also supposed to have boost

  10. horrendous upper on that one but not really concerned w/ the look(all black or something tame works for me). as for the Boost in the heel only- thats typical of most new bb cushioning techs. the first iteration is almost always in the heel. in due time I’m sure we’ll get forefoot only versions as well as full length

personally I think the heel Boost will work better for me than forefoot would. I dont run on my toes like a KD or Ray Allen. its just unnatural for me as well as most people, I believe. and its my understanding that where boost really shines is its ability to give back energy and propel you into your next step more than traditional foams. I think this will benefit people who make normal heel contact as the heel Boost is going to help spring us from heel to forefoot more quickly and w/ less physical energy wasted

    1. That’s why its important to have options when it comes to cushioning. The way I see it, its better to have both heel and forefoot cushioning or full length that way the shoes works for both types of runners, forefoot or heel strikers.

  11. As I said to you several times over a year ago…actually right after your first boost video running around your neighborhood after just getting the boost running shoe—–.I don’t think boost will translate in any for to a shoe. I’m the first to say its 99% performance. .. (you just did a video on Retro 3s) kind of hypocritical. You started as an all performance channel..so I really have to call you out on that. I’m the last to say looks are that essential but..I’m not wearing “Aunt Pearls or these other (usually fuse) CLOWN shoes. (First Clown shoe was the Jordan X by the way…moonboots I called them in the store when originally launched.) So…in conclusion. ..Looks are a part of the shoe but performance on the court is essential….A kind of Simpatico. You could have the best shoes ever..but if they looked like pink and dogshit…even I wouldn’t wear them and vice versa. I just finished breaking in your same blue and volt Crazy light 3..now there is a 4. Another D rose .5 every like 2 months it seems like. Boost is a gimmick. .in a running shoe maybe but doesn’t translate to basketball.

    1. Also.Ii think the Crazy light 3 was a huge step forward. .just that heel cushion was a little soft as we know. U have the blue and the black versions. Im looked forward to the CL4 slightly. DR5 not. Your black CL3s wrre from the unnecessary finishline commercial.

    2. Call me out on what exactly? My first vid was a performance review and my second was on a Retro. I’ve been doing the same reviews for nearly 5 yrs now. Nothing hypocritical about it.

      1. If you have seen the sample of the Rose 5 they have a foam on the lateral side of the shoe which should be firmer than the boost cushion which will provide lateral support. I hate how people say that a cushioning system will not work because its too soft or unstable. Look at the Kobe 8s or any Zoom Air shoe, both have cushioning systems that are soft but if they are implemented the right way they have enough support. And Nightwing can review whatever he wants its his site, I think he does a great job in separating performance and aesthetics features in his reviews and does a great job of explaining the purpose of each feature in a shoe. And how is Boost cushioning a gimmick, when they’re has been nothing but high praise from the running community?

    3. your “BOOST is a GimmicK” statement pretty much a testament that you don’t know anything about Boost tech nor ever tried it. I tried and bought them when I was in London and they are pretty much the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn and I’m pretty much the most active individual you have ever met. I do cross-train a lot which NightWing isn’t or does not do since he is mostly a basketball guy. I have used the boost runners in the workout gym doing zumba, cardio runs and outdoor jogs. I must say and testify that the tech itself is very good and easy for the knees especially for longer periods. I even tried it a few times for basketball and amazed on how responsive it was and comfortable on the court. about as good as the Nike’s unlocked zoom but much more comfortable and more durable than the Melo X’s. but since they weren’t basketball shoes but runners, I have issues with lockdown and ankle support. other than those, the shoe’s traction and cushion tech are pretty much made for any type of court sport.

  12. That is VERY disappointing that the BOOST is only in the heel. Especially since they made alot of progress with the comfort around the ankle, which was the biggest problem for me, and why I never got the CL3. It didn’t look much different then the CL2, and it kept sawing away around my ankle.

  13. Will sure give it a try. Was looking to buy a running shoe just to try the boost, but now that these are coming out i’ll buy these.

  14. Soooo happy with adidas! Their models are now much more distinct from each other, and will serve a wider variety of personal preferences. Far cry from when all their models used puremotion except the CL3. Love the variety! Will definitely purchase more than one model! (Looking at you engle wood, and you rose5!)

  15. I’m glad there is no boost in the forefoot. Boost is way too soft and spongy for basketball in my opinion.

  16. I’ve played in the d rose 2.5, 3.5, crazy light 1 and 2 an for me I’m spectacle about this shoe. I’ve never tried Boost and I have no idea if it’s gimmick or not, personally I’ll have to try these on my feet in comparison to the Air Jordan’s xx8 “unlocked zoom” to make my choice. However, as a guard forefoot zoom, lunar-lon or boost would be much rather preferred, something this doesn’t even offer.

I think I’ll wait to see what jordan brand does with the xx9 this fall.
