Under Armour Unveils the SpeedForm Slingshot

Under Armour has officially unveiled their latest runner — the Under Armour SpeedForm Slingshot. WearTesters actually got a look at the shoe in October of 2015. Here’s the presser:

Back in 2014, Under Armour’s footwear team was given a challenge. Analyze the world’s fastest runners…and make them even faster. In other words: defy the limits of speed.

This went beyond conventional shoe construction. The team had to find a way to amplify the body’s most basic speed-generating mechanism, the foot. To do that, they went back to Under Armour’s roots in compression.

The upper of the new UA SpeedForm Slingshot features asymmetrical compression zones of varying strength, woven together seamlessly. The zones work together to power the foot through the gait cycle faster. To handle the torque of high-speed running, the team wove two proven performance fabrics into the upper, UA Tech, which has lived in Under Armour performance apparel for years, and Dyneema. Engineered by NASA, Dyneema is stronger than steel but so light that it floats on water. Then, below that, the team built a Pebax propulsion plate into the midsole. Like a launching pad, it maximizes energy at toe-off for explosive movement.

The result is an all-new running system that acts as one big muscle-mimicking compression spring for your foot. Now, no matter how fast you are… you get faster.

-Under Armour

When folded over, the shoe really does spring back with the Pebax propulsion plate in the midsole, very effectively, as we saw in October. A total of four colorways in both Men’s and Women’s sizes are scheduled to release tomorrow, March 4, for $140. Thoughts on the Under Armour Speedform Slingshot? Share them below.

  1. Hate to be a broken record but the price of sneakers is outrageous. UA is charging a running sneaker made of cloth (is Dyneema necessary tech.) for $140 plus tax. That last sentence about getting faster… Is that NW’s words or UA’s?

    1. Dude, big text is from the UA press release, the little text above and below it is NW. That’s why the little text says “Here’s the presser:” at the start and at the end of the big text it has “-Under Armour”

  2. I have no idea why people are complaining about the price of these. A knit upper, propulsion plate, and a Charged midsole all packed into a design innovated from SpeedForm for $140 is not bad at all. Considering Nike Flyknit Lunar 3s are $150, these have more tech and are less expensive.

    1. be my guest and pick up all you want. maybe you can give us a performance review and justify its price.

  3. is the burrito wrap the best way to utilise a tongue?
the clb 2015s were a definite letdown as far a lockdown goes IMO
wanna see more traditional tongues, the ones most of us are familiar with

  4. These have the strongest knit in the industry and definitely feel ready for basketball use. The burrito tongue just adds to a feeling that these become an extension of your foot. $140 is cheaper than essentially every other shoe companies high end shoe so if your complaining, buy some sketchers. Cushion is just above minimalist and the shoes feel better the faster you go. Great execution by UA.
