Two Upcoming Dame 3 Colorways: Rip City and Chinese New Year

adidas Dame 3 chinese new year 3

After adidas officially unveiled the Dame 3, Lillard’s third signature shoe, the brand kindly sent over detailed images of a couple upcoming colorways: ‘Rip City’ and ‘Chinese New Year’. Tonight, Damian Lillard will debut the Dame 3 on the hardwood against Oklahoma City.

The very first drop of the Dame 3 will be the limited triple red ‘Roots’ build we’ve been seeing for a couple months now (December 14). However, shortly after that the ‘Rip City’ colorway, pictured below, will release on January 19 for $115. Release information for the ‘Chinese New Year’ build, pictured above, is still TBD, but it should be around January 28.

The tech specs, design sketches, and story behind the shoe’s design are here.

Enjoy the gallery of images below and let us know if these upcoming colorways make or break the Dame 3 for you. Which one do you prefer?

  1. Jeez am so active today lol

Love the rip city cw: this is how i imagine Jordans 3 being redone to modern standards. Amazing how nike has staled in the last couple of years: back in HS you would only buy nikes (pippens, jordans if you are.lucky) and converse (larry johnson, Kevin johnson). Now i haven’t seen a nike/jordan model i would actually like: seems like adidas, bb, ua are pushing the envelope

    1. KD9 was pretty strong bringing great full length air zoom that was very light and flexible and the best materials used from a Nike hoop shoe. IMO, the best basketball shoe of 2016. I’m not big on Kyrie 2’s but I swear I see that shoe as much as any shoe along with Kobe, Curry and KD’s (I live in Austin).

I honestly have seen like a few people with current Adidas shoes when I play, which are the Lilard 2’s, a shoe I really like but haven’t seen any Hardens, Rose 7, CE or CLB16

Nobody wears BrandBlack, they are irrelevent.

UA failed to use the momentum and buzz and greatest from the Curry 2 and took a step back with the Curry 3. Outside of Curry shoes, nobody really wears any other UA basketball shoe, except if you play for a school that is with UA.

      1. I’m from Illinois, and I have been seeing people wearing the Crazy Explosive, the CLBs, and Lillards. Also been seeing more non-Curry UAs from the middle school and jr high kids. And I certainly wouldn’t say BrandBlack is irrelevant.

      2. Brandblack is most certainly not irrelevant — just our little collab sold out in minutes and left thousands hungry for the next one. I wouldn’t call that irrelevant…and when a company is putting out some of the best tech available right now, it isn’t irrelevant

        1. Yes they are. Inside this small bubble of sneaker heads and the sub culture of basketball performance specific shoes, people know of the name. But for the general consumer or even sneaker head they’ve never heard of Brandblack.

Like I said you don’t see their shoe in any NBA game, hell not even college. Go to any shoe retailer, you see brandblack? Nope.

          IRRELEVENT.

  2. The Chinese new year looks awesome. I thought the shoe was ugly when I first saw it, but I think that was due to the leaked photos being crappy. Wasn’t a good first impression.

    1. I agree 100%. I think we’re finding that more and more — the leaked photos make these kicks look terrible and they only give us an IDEA of what a shoe will look like. When I saw the official photos from /// I was HYPED

  3. Those CNY’s are dope as hell! Hope it’s a GR and I can get it for a discount hahah

Can’t wait to hear how that dual density Bounce feels though

  4. Sneaker has potential….not sure who signed off on having a person with little/thin ankles model the sneaker. What poor execution in marketing!! It raises questions especially on lockdown (for those of us who actually hoop and care about the lockdown/performance).

  5. The design is certainly different.. It reminds me of how Air Jordans used to be. They were striking, different from all the other shoes at the time they came out. They don’t really appeal to me now, but I guess that is kind of the point. They are different and sort of stand out. In all probability a winner performance-wise.

  6. The design is kinda Y3ish. With the right colorway, this could become a fashionable shoe. What’s appealing is that it’s different than anything else, without being off-putting. Like most people, the initial pictures didn’t impress me, but I think I like it now. I just wonder if that cage will feel bulky once you start playing in these.

    1. Nightwing didn’t mention the cage feeling bulky, didn’t mention it at all really, so that’s a good sign! He and I were discussing and I think you’re right — just look at the design sketches! That is a Yeezy/Y3 but for ball

  7. Everyone seems to be taking cue from Puma designs. These seem to be inspired by the Puma El Ace 3, like how Brandblack Ether looks to be a high top version of the Puma Match Classic sneakers.

  8. Lol, I immediately started dreaming of these with FYW-pods(would be awesome, kind of KB8.III-ish), being an underpronator I fear that panzered mid-foot, and the lace-rack, these could be the strongest lockdown, motion-controlled shoes in a long time.
