SneakersNStuff Auctions Yeezy Boost 750s for Haiti Relief

This weekend was full of Ls for those trying to cop the latest Yeezy Boost 750. However, over 5,000 miles away Haiti is in the midst of another crisis.

Two weeks ago, Hurricane Matthew, a Category 4 storm that brought winds of 107 mph, nearly annihilated Haiti. Satellite images of the country, from space, show just how much of the lush green landscape was destroyed. The storm left thousands without food, water, shelter, and hope.

Now, the good Swedes over at Sneakersnstuff have withheld 30 pairs of Yeezy Boost 350s from this weekend’s launch in order to auction them. Don’t feel bad; 60,000 signed up for the SNS online raffle and thousands waited in line at each SNS location so nobody was really going to get a pair (that’s what happens when you create a product that will never fulfill the demand for it). Yet, today, thousands are still displaced in Haiti. Thus, the pairs SNS held on to will be auctioned to highest bidder and all of the proceeds will go directly to the International Red Cross to fund relief for Haiti.

This is your chance to get your pair and make the world a better place in the process. Even if you aren’t interested in bidding on a pair of Yeezys you can still help: the Red Cross helped set up a very simple donation widget on the SNS site. To donate, just click here. If every one of the @sneakersnstuff Instagram account donated just $1, that would be nearly $300,000.

The SNS Yeezy auction will be running from October 20 to October 24. Do what you can to help — no donation is too small.

  1. Haiti has a poverty rate of 58%. They need really do need help. It would be nice if Hollywood would help them again like they when the had the earthquake.

  2. Attention those wanting to Donate: Your will of wanting to give no matter how large or small is great. However, since the earthquake which many of us remember, the single largest industry/money-making opportunity for Haitians has been to be employed by relief efforts such as the Red Cross and the like. These groups are great because they try to help Haitians and other people in need, but this does not solve Haiti’s problem, in fact it can make it worse. Haiti is very poor and since such a large amount of money is in the large non-profit relief groups, they all only end up working for the groups. It is good that they have money, but it doesn’t actually help them climb out of the dark hole of poverty that so many Haitians live in. What they really need is a little bit of help to put things back together and recover the VERY LITTLE infrastructure that was already there (which there is already more than enough money donated to accomplish this) and then they need new job opportunities that will help themselves thrive independent of big American/European money thrown at non-profits agencies. I wish I had a link to a website that is connecting with Haitian communities to help them recover and then rebuild themselves, but I don’t have a great one. The only one I know of that is seeking to empower a Haitian community is a group that my girlfriend’s Dad has worked with following the earthquake and that is haitilifeline.org they work with an orphanage and some great people in Haiti to not just “give them fish”, but “teach them how to fish” as the old saying goes. But don’t get me wrong, I love what SNS is doing with this seeking to make a love of sneakers translate to a love for other people not just ourselves, and if you want to participate in the raffle, GO FOR IT I hope they can raise a lot of money, if you want to or have given to non-profit relief organization, I’m not saying you did anything wrong, this is just another option with a different perspective. As for me (a broke college student), I’m gonna pray for the people of Haiti and I hope you join me! Thanks Weartesters for sharing this good opportunity!
