The Reebok Shaq Attaq Modern, a 2017 Update to Celebrate 25 Years

reebok shaq attaq modern 1

The Reebok Shaq Attaq was a bold, bulky, Pump-equipped sneaker that was certainly a product of its time. Now, for its 25th anniversary, it is getting a new build.

Spotted months ago, the Reebok Shaq Attaq Modern ditches its former leather build for a more contemporary lightweight construction of woven mesh and synthetics. The collar also sheds weight with a net mesh over a lightweight foam compound for comfort. The traditional overlays and stitches have been replaced with hot melt fuse that mimics the old look.

This predominantly yellow colorway, inspired by the 1994 video game Shaq Fu, will hit FinishLine.com on May 19 for $160.

  1. Speaking of Reebok, has anyone seen their new running shoes? It looks like they have a new foam (Float Foam) that was developed in conjunction with BASF (the company that made Boost). If this new foam of Reebok’s is any good, they could be back in the game.

It seems like every company now is starting to make/develop a next gen foam. Too many choices to choose from now, but that’s not a bad thing :).

      1. Hi Noah,

I don’t know where I first read about them. I saw it mentioned somewhere that they got a good review at Runner’s World, so then I went to Runner’s world and saw that BASF was involved in the making/development of the new foam, so check out Runner’s World review if you are interested in getting a pair to review here at Weartesters.

The shoe is called Reebok Float Ride Run and it won best debut.

They also have another shoe called Reebok OSR Harmony Road that the heel cushioning was also developed by BASF.

Edit : I may have gotten the shoes mixed up as it’s the OSR Harmony Road shoe that has had the foam made by BASF, but that Float Foam on the other shoe I mentioned above sounds like it’s right up there with Boost. I haven’t seen documentation that Float Foam was developed by BASF. However, RW say that the energy return on Float Foam in their lab showed that it was on par with the most cushioned Boost shoes, so it’s definitely a shoe that I want to try out. It’s $150 USD, so if they’re pricing it that high, I think they’re pretty confident in it.

Anyway, tell me what you think after you’ve checked them out online.

        1. Thank you! We reported on the FloatRide waaaaayyyy back before it had been announced and then again once it was official and available. I took a look at both and they seem interesting — Reebok needs to do big things, and adidas has decided not to sell the brand because things are looking up.
We will try and get both for review here.

          1. Cool. I think I will try and get a pair of the Float Ride’s if they release a colorway that I like. But yeah, both shoes look good.

Reebok may be making a comeback. I also completely forgot that Adidas now own them. That explains the use of BASF for the OSR Harmony Road cushioning. The heel cushioning on the Harmony Road’s heel definitely seems like it’s made in a similar way to Boost with the streaming of the foam. Interesting that it looks like pasta instead of the round pellets like Boost.
